BECOME A SCIENCE, TECHNOLOGY, ENGINEERING and MATH (STEM) VOLUNTEER TUTOR!
Help middle school and high school students develop a passion for math and science by becoming a dedicated afterschool tutor.
Whether you’re great, good or fair at Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM), you can help make an impact on inner-city youth. Here’s how: The Parris Foundation S.T.E.M.ulating Minds Tutoring Program has returned for the Fall 2019-Summer 2020 school year . The program began after a successful summer pilot in 2012, and our subsequent programs have grown to continue to serve middle school students and high school students. With the growing impact on the community, we need your support to continue to bring STEM to our middle school and high school youth throughout New York City . As we expand to more locations to serve more youth, there is a growing need for volunteers!
Our ideal volunteer is enthusiastic about working with youth, can commit to multiple Tuesdays and/or Thursdays, and possesses, at minimum, basic science and math skills. No previous education experience is required. Your passion for science and math coupled with a desire to help New York City youth realize their true potential is all that is required.

Entertainment begins at 7 pm, followed by the movie screening at dusk.
**Please note: the Wednesday, July 17 screening of Brave has been rescheduled to take place on Thursday, August 1 due to expected rain**
This year’s series celebrates women’s voices in cinema by highlighting three fan-favorite films: Brave (co-written and co-directed by Brenda Chapman), Love and Basketball (written and directed by Gina Prince-Bythewood), and Babe: Pig in the City (co-written by Judy Morris). Each film is unique in its storytelling about bravery, love and expanding horizons, and what better way to celebrate these themes than with our friends, families and community.
Event Timeline:
6 pm: Pre-Movie Fun courtesy of our community partners
7 pm: Live Musical Entertainment
8:20 pm: Movie Begins
The full line-up and pre-film musical acts are as follows:
Love and Basketball (2000)
Wednesday, July 24
Two next-door neighbors in Los Angeles, California who are pursuing their basketball careers end up falling for each other. A DJ set by Dr. Israel before the film showcases the film’s love of R&B & hip hop from the 80’s, 90’s, and early aughts.
Babe: Pig in the City (1998)
Wednesday, July 31
Babe, fresh from his victory in the sheepherding contest, returns to Farmer Hoggett’s farm, but after Farmer Hoggett is injured and unable to work, Babe must go to the big city in to save the farm. The pre-movie entertainment is a tribute set dedicated to director George Miller by Morricone Youth, a NYC band dedicated to writing, performing and recording music written for the moving image.
Brave (2012)
Thursday, August 1, Please note: This is a rain date screening.
A Scottish girl determined to make her own path in life, Princess Merida defies a custom that brings chaos to her kingdom.
