What is a Tunnel to Towers 5K Run & Walk?

The Tunnel to Towers National Run, Walk, & Climb Series was created to honor the final steps of Stephen Siller, a New York City firefighter (FDNY) who lost his life on September 11, 2001 after strapping on his gear and running through the Hugh L. Carey Tunnel (formerly known as the Brooklyn Battery Tunnel) to the Twin Towers.

The Run, Walk, & Climb Series pays homage to all first responders and service members who made, and continue to make, extraordinary sacrifices in the line of duty.

The Tunnel to Towers 5K Run & Walk NYC is located in the boroughs of Brooklyn and Manhattan. The 5K Run & Walk starts at Ikea Parking Lot 9, 1 Beard St., Brooklyn, NY 11231 and ends in Manhattan at the corner of West and Murray Streets.

How far is the Tunnel to Towers 5K Run & Walk NYC?

The Tunnel to Towers 5K Run & Walk NYC is slightly longer than a standard 5K course. It is approximately 3.5 miles long, beginning at the Brooklyn portal of the Hugh L. Carey Tunnel and continuing into the streets of Manhattan, before finally finishing at West Street and Murray Street.Click here to see a course map.

Can I purchase a timing chip?

Yes – you may purchase timing chips online until 11:59PM on Saturday, September 25, 2021. Please note timing chips are only available while supplies last.

NO TIMING CHIPS WILL BE SOLD ON THE DAY OF THE RUN.

Can I register the day of the run?

Yes – race day registration is available, but all registrations must be completed online through our race registration website on your own device. There will be no exceptions to this policy.

All registrants for the 2021 T2T NYC Run must have their bib in hand by 9AM on Run Day, Sunday September 26, 2021. As per security, NO bibs will be distributed after this time and NO exceptions can be made.

When does online registration close?

Online registration will remain open until 8:29 a.m. on September 26, 2021. However, if you wish to receive a timing chip through online registration, this must be completed on or before September 25, 2021. Please note, timing chips are subject to availability and may sell out prior to the official sale deadline.

All registrants for the 2021 T2T NYC Run must have their bib in hand by 9AM on Run Day, Sunday September 26, 2021. As per security, NO bibs will be distributed after this time and NO exceptions can be made.

Do I have to wear my bib number?

Yes – You must display your bib on the front of your outermost garment. Those running without a bib will be asked to leave the course and will not be allowed to finish.

I am a fast runner, can I get a front line position?

Runners predicting a pace faster than a six-minute mile will be seeded in the front corral. A separate entrance (marked in yellow) will be at the front of the start line.

Is there transportation to and from the event?

Yes – New York Water Taxi service begins at 6:00 am. Water taxis leave from Pier 11/Wall Street terminal. The last vessel leaves for Brooklyn at 7:45 am. You must be on line by 7:30 am to get to the start line on time. If you’re returning to Brooklyn after the race and festivities, wearing your bib assures free transportation from Pier 11.

NO FOOD OR DRINK, INCLUDING WATER CAN BE BROUGHT ONTO THE NEW YORK WATER TAXIS.

Is there parking available?

Yes – parking is available by South Street Seaport in Manhattan. There is NO parking available in the IKEA lots on the Brooklyn side; only limited street parking. Mass transit is strongly encouraged for the event.

Will there be any refreshments available before the event?

Yes,IKEA Brooklyn will be opening their restaurant at 6:30 AM on race day. All items will be available for participants to purchase.

Where can I pick up my runner’s packet or volunteer/vendor credentials?

Volunteer and vendor photo identification can be picked up at the locations listed below on the dates provided. Bib numbers/packets can be picked up at the start of the run at IKEA parking lot in Brooklyn, NY. T-Shirts will be given at the T-Shirt Pick-Up Tent on Vesey Street at the end of the run. We strongly advise picking up your packet prior to the day of the run at the locations listed below:

Can I pick up someone else’s registration packet/bib?

You may NOT pick up MORE than ten (10) bibs.

You must sign an acknowledgement/waiver for each bib that you are picking up. Click here for waiver.

You must have a paper copy or electronic photo of the driver’s license/state identification for each participant bib you are picking up.

There will be NO PAPER REGISTRATION allowed. Each participant must register through EventBrite and will be assigned a bib number.

Same day registration is still an option. However, it may only be done electronically through EventBrite. If you wish to register during the packet pick up days, you will need to register through EventBrite on your own device before being assigned a bib.

Again, there is NO PAPER REGISTRATION.

Will water be available?

Yes – water stations will be located at the start line, finish line and at a station at the end of the tunnel on the Manhattan side. Participants may NOT carry water bottles in the tunnel. NO WATER BOTTLES ARE PERMITTED IN THE TUNNEL.

What can you bring to the event?

One (1) clear plastic bag will be supplied by UPS to put your belongings in. Please do not bring valuables. The Tunnel to Towers Foundation is not responsible for any personal items/valuables.

May I run with a stroller, backpack, wheelchair, roller blades, bicycle, bags, water bottle, flag pole, Scott air-pak, child-carrier, and/or a weighted vest?

Please adhere to the following rules:

For the safety and security of all participants, and as per law enforcement and the City of New York, the run is restricted to foot traffic only.

THE FOLLOWING ITEMS ARE STRICTLY PROHIBITED anywhere on the race course or in the tunnel and on all modes of transportation provided by the Tunnel to Towers Foundation: strollers, backpacks, wheelchairs, roller blades, bicycles, bags, water bottles, flag poles, Scott air-paks,child-carriers, and weighted vests. NO EXCEPTIONS.

ABSOLUTELY NO WEAPONS, WILL BE PERMITTED INTO THE TUNNEL OR ONTO THE RACE COURSE BY ANY AGENCY, GROUP, OR INDIVIDUAL PARTICIPATING IN THE RACE.

Can I bring my cell phone?

SPECIAL NOTE:

Cell phone use is strictly prohibited by participants during the race. No photos or video recordings are permitted along the race course, including inside the tunnel by any participants. For the safety of all participants, this rule will be strictly enforced.

Are refunds permissible? Can I transfer my registration?

ALL SALES ARE FINAL and we do not allow refunds. You may transfer your registration to another participant. For instructions on how to transfer your registration please click here.

Does the fun end at the finish line?

Of course not! Join us on Vesey Street for free food, drinks and live entertainment at our post-run BBQ and Concert.

Where do I sign up to be a fundraiser or join a fundraising team?

You can sign up to become a fundraiser at nycrun.t2t.org . Then click CREATE YOUR FUNDRAISING PAGE. Then decide if you want to join a team or start your own fundraiser.

Is there a fundraising minimum?

There is no minimum but we encourage participants to raise funds to support our programs. Registration fees help offset some of the expenses associated with making the Tunnel to Towers 5K Run & Walk NYC one of the country’s greatest annual events, but fundraising is essential for us to make a difference in the lives of so many in need. This year we have brand new incentives for reaching $150, $250, $500, $1000, $1500 and $5000 fundraising goals!

How long do I have to fundraise for incentives?

Fundraising for the 5K Run & Walk NYC will remain open until Sunday, October 10th, 2021

When will my fundraising incentive arrive?

Your fundraising incentives will arrive by January following the event.

What precautions are being taken with regard to COVID-19?

The Foundation is closely monitoring updates and following all current CDC guidelines, as well as New York State and City protocols and restrictions. We will follow all mandates in place on the day of the Run. Every effort is being made to make this Event as safe and enjoyable as possible for all participants.

Every Monday there will be a dynamic and challenging HIIT class (adaptable to all levels of ability) on one of #HRPK’s newest Piers! From Monday, June 14 – September 27 classes will take place at Hudson River Park’s Pier 26 from 6:30 – 7:30 PM.

Registration in advance is required for this event. **Bring your own mat for class!**

As part of the entry requirements for events in Hudson River Park, as of September 13, 2021, attendees must provide proof of a completed FDA or WHO vaccination to access the event. A complete vaccination means having received a final FDA or WHO vaccination dose at least 14 days before the performance date. Can I come alone? Absolutely! Typically about 75% of the crowd comes alone

What is the suggested age range? All ages are welcome

Do I have to arrive at exactly 6:30 PM? No, feel free to arrive any time between 6:30 and 7:30 PM

How many people will be there? Based on past events we expect between 100 and 200 people to be in attendance

Is there music? Yes, there will be great music playing at just the right volume for mingling

Are there drinks? Yes, there’s a full menu of great drink specials available at the bar.

Is food available? Yes you can order food. The venue has a full food menu and great appetizers available to order.

What is the dress code? While there’s no official dress code we ask that you don’t wear gym gear or baseball caps. What you wear to work in likely perfectly fine.

Who attends the event? Professionals of all sorts and ages.

Can I arrive late? Absolutely. Arrive any time you’d like. The event officially starts at 6:30 but if traveling in from a distance you’re welcome to arrive at 7:30 or after.

Rooftop Reds is the world’s first commercial rooftop vineyard–Our 168 grapevines could use some company, so come for a drink or two!
About this event
As we welcome our beloved community back to Rooftop Reds we must ask everyone to adhere to guidelines that will keep clients and staff members safe.

Each $15 reservation comes with a bag of Zapp’s Potato Chips and a sustainably packaged boxed water.

**Refunds must be requested at least 48 hours prior to the start time of your ticketed event or reservation session**

**Please note that an automatic 20% gratuity will be applied to groups of 6+**

**We allow guests to order pizza exclusively from Il Porto Pizzeria. We have menus onsite for ordering pizzas upon arrival. For guests looking to order other items from Il Porto, please contact events@rooftopreds.com**

**Guests will not be able to order pizza from Il Porto Pizzeria during food programming on Friday nights beginning on May 21st and ending in September.**

Covid-19 Safety Procedures at Rooftop Reds

Hand washing station at entrance to the rooftop for guests and employees to use upon entering the rooftop.

All surfaces will be wiped down in between reservation sessions with CDC approved disinfectant.

The indoor tasting room and vestibule areas will only be accessible for Rooftop Reds employees.

**Guests who make reservations separately but want to sit together need to notify Rooftop Reds OR make a reservation under one name for up to 10 people. Groups that fail to meet this expectation may not be accommodated**

**If your group size exceeds 10 people, you must contact events@rooftopreds.com**

**Your ticket is linked to a specific reservation time frame—end times are strictly enforced and must be adhered to. For example, if you purchase tickets to a 12pm—3pm session, you can arrive any time after 12pm, but will be asked to leave the rooftop by 3pm.**

Guidelines for enjoying your time at Rooftop Reds

Guests are forbidden from using the freight elevator–any guest caught using the elevator will be asked to leave immediately and will not receive a refund for their ticket.

Guests are required to wear a mask upon entering the Brooklyn Navy Yard and must keep it on until they are seated in their reservation space. This applies to time spent in the stairwell, hallway, restroom, and other public areas of the Brooklyn Navy Yard.

Guests must stay in their reservation space in order to ensure proper social distancing.

The indoor tasting room and vestibule areas will only be accessible for Rooftop Reds employees.

Directions to Rooftop Reds!

An email will be sent to you with a barcode to enter into the Brooklyn Navy Yard where we are located. Please enter the Navy Yard via the Sands Street gate at 299 Sands Street. Please show the barcode you receive the day of your reservation to the security guard at the sands street gate. Proceed past the gate and take a right at the stop sign–you will see Duggal on your left and the Wegmans’ loading dock on your right–the building straight ahead is the building Rooftop Reds is located in, Building #275. Follow the signs to the eastern staircase and walk up to the rooftop (5 flights up!) then promptly enjoy cold water and a refreshing glass of wine!

The adventure begins with a Stalk Talk to prepare you for the 3-acre challenge of finding clues, solving puzzles, and making your way to Victory Bridge where the full vista of Warhol’s Cow is revealed. The Frame: Rooftop Films & lululemon NYC

Some recent films have suggested that five emotions help humans navigate our complex world, but the characters we meet in these short films display a much more complex network of passions, sentiments and affections in response to modern life. For some, like a woman whose Valentine’s Day spent with friends turns into a viral, kinetic and very public freakout, emotions run high. They seem unable to fight the stirring from within. Others must control their feelings for employment or survival like a very zen referee facing near constant provocation from players on the soccer pitch and shark diver who confronts fear under the roiling ocean surface. Still others must dive deep to seek out their emotions like a son whose sweet, befuddling and hilarious send off to his dead father releases the sadness bubbling inside. Thank goodness for the therapists, meditation instructors and even the tears teachers – a very real teacher who encourages adults to cry more – who also populate these filmic spaces. Come experience the anguish and awe, the sorrow and surprise and maybe even a new feeling you’ve never felt before on this short film journey through human emotions.

FAQs

How will it work?

Using your RSVP, our team will check in all patrons by last name at will call. Before your arrival, we will ask you to make sure you can answer “no” to all of the CDC’s COVID-19 safety screening questions. Upon arrival, we will be checking proof of full vaccination. Masks are strongly recommended for children 12 and up. Masks will be required while interacting with event staff and encouraged but not required while watching the films. Chairs will not be permitted on the lawn, so feel free to bring picnic blankets!

Can I bring food and drinks?

No alcoholic beverages are allowed. Feel free to bring snacks and non-alcoholic beverages!

I’m vaccinated, do I need to wear a mask?

All attendees and staff are required to wear a mask while interacting. You will also be reminded of the mandatory safety measures via email and on screen.

What COVID-19 Measures Have Been Taken?

Our guests and our team’s safety is our primary concern. Our COVID-19 safety measures include social distancing for both guests and staff, regular cleaning of all facilities, and contact-free check-in. All attendees and staff are required to wear a mask while interacting. You will also be reminded of the mandatory safety measures via email and on-screen. We will be checking all guests proof of vaccination at check-in.

How accessible is this venue?

Are there ID requirements or an age limit to enter the event?

Rooftop Films are open to all ages.

What are my transport/parking options getting to the event?

There will not be parking on site at this venue. The closest train stations will be Christopher St. station and W 4th St. station.

It is not necessary to print your ticket. Our team will check the name on your RSVP at will call.
