KWANZAA CRAWL IS…
A one-day event where people of the African diaspora join together to support the Black-owned bars and restaurants in their neighborhood. Crawlers will be dressed in whatever makes them feel Black and beautiful for a day of unity, fellowship, and fun!
It will support local, Black-owned businesses in BROOKLYN. The crawl is focused on the social aspect of building community and facilitates the creation of economic empowerment within our community.

WHAT IS A ONE-DAY CHOIR?
Gaia Music Collective’s One-Day Choir series is an opportunity to sing in a choir for one day only. A celebration of song and the connective power of singing in harmony. An opportunity to build community, make some new friends, and raise our powerfully diverse voices as one.
No auditions. No commitment. No judgment or need for perfection.
Just the joy of creating something bigger than ourselves with a room full of beautiful humans!
For each choir, we pick a piece of music to rehearse and sing our hearts out to. In our time together, we’ll:
Play some fun singing games, warmups, and connection games
Work through the piece section by section
Break down the lyrics and emotions at play in the song
Shape some key musical moments
and Record some casual rehearsal videos of the piece to have for ourselves and share with the greater Gaia community
Whether you’re a vocal ensemble veteran or have never sung in a group before, you are welcome here – all experience levels are valued in Gaia Music Collective!
OUR SONG THIS TIME AROUND
Something Wicked this way comes… As the release of this much anticipated movie rolls our way, we figured we would pay tribute to this iconic song from a musical that has captured the hearts of so many! At its core, Wicked is an outsider story: a story of someone who society deems “different” seeking belonging, finding friendship, embracing their power, and fighting for justice. Defying Gravity is the Act I finale of the show, a soaring anthem of empowerment sung by Elphaba as a declaration to those who would try and control her.
We are very excited to share that this choir will be collaboratively led and arranged by both Matt and Kenter, two of our favorite Gaia magic-makers. They’re brewing up something incredibly special for us to sing together, a choral version of this song that will bring this epic song to life in entirely new ways.
LEARNING THE MUSIC
Sheet music and vocal recordings of each part will be available as learning resources at least a week before the event, to accommodate multiple ways of learning. These resources will either be included in your order confirmation or sent out in an email!
The intention is for us to come into the gathering having already familiarized ourselves with the parts, so that we can spend our time together really diving into the joys of connection and expression in the music rather than simply teaching parts one by one. That being said, we’re just doing this for ourselves, so there’s no need to stress over it (and definitely no need to memorize it or get it “perfect”, ever)! It’s also often easier to sing in person, when the rest of our part-buddies are singing the part with us. The community is here to support! Our primary intention here is simply to have fun and make some great music.

LED and FACILITATED BY:
Matt Goldstein (he/him) is an award-winning arranger, facilitator, improviser, songwriter, and educator who is known for his emotive vocal arrangements, soulful singing, heart-forward facilitation, and visionary leadership. After making waves in the a cappella scene as music director of The Vassar Devils and Hyannis Sound, he went on to found Gaia Music Collective, a collaborative music community that is achieving international recognition for its work in creating kind, connective, accessible spaces for musical play and expression. He currently serves as Gaia’s Co-Director and Lead Facilitator, while also performing as an improviser and singer-songwriter, directing at A Cappella Academy, leading Rock Voices (a community pop-rock choir), and teaching vocal improv intensives through Flow Labs.
Kenter Davies (he/him) is a vocal arranger, music educator, and choral facilitator based in Brooklyn, New York. He dedicates his work to creating spaces where people can engage with music without the pressure of perfection, but full of complexity and joy. He highlights the journey over the destination and firmly believes in making music for music-making’s sake. Kenter facilitates One Day Choirs and Folk Song Sings with Gaia, an organization that truly helped him find his voice. His greatest love is helping others find their voices and having fun doing it!
ABOUT THE SPACE:
MADE Bush Terminal is an ambitious development project managed by the New York City Economic Development Corporation (NYCEDC) in Sunset Park, Brooklyn, transforming a historic waterfront property into a modern, mixed-use hub for local producers, fabricators, and creatives. The core mission for MADE — which stands for manufacturers, artisans, designers and entrepreneurs — is to foster local business growth, community use, and sustainable development of this formerly underutilized property while preserving the area’s rich industrial heritage. Gaia Music Collective events are participatory, but low-pressure. You’ll be invited to sing along and make music with us, but we encourage you to draw your own boundaries and engage at your own pace – we pride ourselves in creating a judgment-free community where you can express yourself however feels right!
LATE ARRIVALS
We ask that you arrive no later than 30 minutes after start time, after which we close the doors (lovingly) in order to preserve the intimacy and trust of the musical container we’re building. Thank you for understanding!
CANCELLATION POLICY
Tickets are refundable up to 24 hours before the event, after which we are no longer able to offer refunds. This policy helps us keep these events financially sustainable for both our community and our team. If you RSVP but are no longer able to come, please let us know so that we may offer your spot to someone else! We want as many people to be able to experience these gatherings as possible, and since capacity is limited, each spot is precious.

OUR MISSION
Gaia Music Collective is an NYC-based creative community seeking to foster a more connected world through collective music-making. Founded in June of 2021 in a living room in Brooklyn, this project was born out of a desire to create accessible, inclusive, playful spaces for people to explore connection, expression, healing, and release through collaborative song – spaces where folks feel empowered to make music free of judgment or expectation, and to make new friends as our full, beautiful, authentic selves.
We believe that communal music-making is a fundamental human practice, and this project seeks to build spaces for folks to nurture their relationship to music, whether they’re shower singers, professional musicians, or anything in between.
All are welcome in this community. Gaia seeks to foster spaces of belonging for humans of all ages, races, genders, sexual orientations, classes, religions, abilities, national origins, languages, and musical experiences. All we ask is that you bring an open mind, a desire to connect, and a willingness to leave judgment of self and others at the door.

Our favorite event, ritual, fever-dream, party, myth of the year is back! Please join us on January 1, 2025 for The Poetry Project’s 51st Annual New Year’s Day Marathon.
A daylong celebration of the actualizing power of poetry and performance, the Marathon is an event that feels like it happens because it has to and wants to—because we need it to. It’s as though every year before and every year following were somehow all leading up to it—this day, a time-honored tradition and a spacetime anomaly. It’s the annual event by which we mark our calendars and simultaneously serves as a disruption to the very idea of time—a sort of ridiculous compass—a day when nothing makes sense, or maybe the only day when everything becomes clear.
We don’t really know what the Marathon is, or how exactly it comes together, and probably never will. But what is certain is that the Marathon changes us every year—which is precisely the power of its expansiveness, magnetism, impact, and ability to bring us together. It is a testament to our belief that poetry, performance, the avant-garde, the raucous, sexy, surprising, subaltern, the weird, have the ability to effect change. A radical spark that stirs what is within us to ignition—a transformation and transmission that reaches beyond us. The Marathon is our annual reaffirmation in the strength of collectivity, in knowing that what we do here—together—does something.
Resonating within and across the legacies and lineages of past New Year’s Marathons—the first coordinated in 1974 by the ever-wonderful and much beloved co-founder and past Director of the Project, Anne Waldman—this monumental gathering features over 130 poets, musicians, dancers, writers, and performers who share work throughout the day. The Marathon has become our annual calling card, a rallying cry, and biggest fundraiser.
The funds raised at the New Year’s Day Marathon directly support:
The Poetry Project’s 50+ live readings and events which are livestreamed (for free!) and reach thousands of in-person and virtual attendees each year
Our quarterly Newsletter which publishes a breadth of creative and scholarly writing
Our learning programs which serve hundreds of workshop attendees each season, including at least 3 fully-funded scholarship recipients per workshop
The payments we make to the 200+ performers, readers, educators, lecturers, editors, curators, and writers we work with each year—as well as the audio and video techs that make our programs possible
The Marathon is crucial to sustaining The Poetry Project’s mission to serve and advocate for the vast community of poets, writers, artists, thinkers, and students who gather and make work here, and strengthens this cultural anti-enterprise that we have been collectively building for a half a century plus.
As we head into another year of compounded grief, unprecedented challenges, and palpable uncertainty, we look forward to the possibility of being with you all on January 1. What is there to hold onto? Each other, this day, our joy, our rage. Our impossible project. How do we hold onto it? By coming together. By organizing. With impossible belief.

The Poetry Project’s 51st Annual New Year’s Day Marathon will begin at 1pm on New Year’s Day and run until midnight on January 2nd. The event will be divided into two sections, which will be ticketed separately: 1–6pm and 7pm–midnight, with an hour break in between. During the hour break, the sanctuary will be cleared so that we can reset the space.
Tickets to each section are $30 in advance or $35 at the door. If you would like to attend the entire event, please purchase a ticket to both sections!
We’re thrilled this year to offer a limited number of Late Night tickets, which will grant you admission to the marathon from 9pm on. Late Night tickets are available in advance or at the door for $20.
The entire event will also be livestreamed. Access to the livestream is pay-what-you-can, suggested donation $10–30.

Just the joy of creating something bigger than ourselves with a room full of beautiful humans!
For each choir, we pick a piece of music to rehearse and sing our hearts out to. In our time together, we’ll:
-Play some fun singing games, warmups, and connection games
-Work through the piece section by section
-Break down the lyrics and emotions at play in the song
-Shape some key musical moments
-and Record some casual rehearsal videos of the piece to have for ourselves and share with the greater Gaia community
Whether you’re a vocal ensemble veteran or have never sung in a group before, you are welcome here – all experience levels are valued in Gaia Music Collective!

OUR SONG THIS TIME AROUND
Something Wicked this way comes… As the release of this much anticipated movie rolls our way, we figured we would pay tribute to this iconic song from a musical that has captured the hearts of so many! At its core, Wicked is an outsider story: a story of someone who society deems “different” seeking belonging, finding friendship, embracing their power, and fighting for justice. Defying Gravity is the Act I finale of the show, a soaring anthem of empowerment sung by Elphaba as a declaration to those who would try and control her.
We are very excited to share that this choir will be collaboratively led and arranged by both Matt and Kenter, two of our favorite Gaia magic-makers. They’re brewing up something incredibly special for us to sing together, a choral version of this song that will bring this epic song to life in entirely new ways.
LEARNING THE MUSIC
Sheet music and vocal recordings of each part will be available as learning resources at least a week before the event, to accommodate multiple ways of learning. These resources will either be included in your order confirmation or sent out in an email!
The intention is for us to come into the gathering having already familiarized ourselves with the parts, so that we can spend our time together really diving into the joys of connection and expression in the music rather than simply teaching parts one by one. That being said, we’re just doing this for ourselves, so there’s no need to stress over it (and definitely no need to memorize it or get it “perfect”, ever)! It’s also often easier to sing in person, when the rest of our part-buddies are singing the part with us. The community is here to support! Our primary intention here is simply to have fun and make some great music.

Kenter Davies (he/him) is a vocal arranger, music educator, and choral facilitator based in Brooklyn, New York. He dedicates his work to creating spaces where people can engage with music without the pressure of perfection, but full of complexity and joy. He highlights the journey over the destination and firmly believes in making music for music-making’s sake. Kenter facilitates One Day Choirs and Folk Song Sings with Gaia, an organization that truly helped him find his voice. His greatest love is helping others find their voices and having fun doing it!

LOW-PRESSURE PARTICIPATION
Gaia Music Collective events are participatory, but low-pressure. You’ll be invited to sing along and make music with us, but we encourage you to draw your own boundaries and engage at your own pace – we pride ourselves in creating a judgment-free community where you can express yourself however feels right!
LATE ARRIVALS
We ask that you arrive no later than 30 minutes after start time, after which we close the doors (lovingly) in order to preserve the intimacy and trust of the musical container we’re building. Thank you for understanding!
CANCELLATION POLICY
Tickets are refundable up to 24 hours before the event, after which we are no longer able to offer refunds. This policy helps us keep these events financially sustainable for both our community and our team. If you RSVP but are no longer able to come, please let us know so that we may offer your spot to someone else! We want as many people to be able to experience these gatherings as possible, and since capacity is limited, each spot is precious.

OUR MISSION
Gaia Music Collective is an NYC-based creative community seeking to foster a more connected world through collective music-making. Founded in June of 2021 in a living room in Brooklyn, this project was born out of a desire to create accessible, inclusive, playful spaces for people to explore connection, expression, healing, and release through collaborative song – spaces where folks feel empowered to make music free of judgment or expectation, and to make new friends as our full, beautiful, authentic selves.
We believe that communal music-making is a fundamental human practice, and this project seeks to build spaces for folks to nurture their relationship to music, whether they’re shower singers, professional musicians, or anything in between.
All are welcome in this community. Gaia seeks to foster spaces of belonging for humans of all ages, races, genders, sexual orientations, classes, religions, abilities, national origins, languages, and musical experiences. All we ask is that you bring an open mind, a desire to connect, and a willingness to leave judgment of self and others at the door.

An enchanting musical program with piano accompaniment will be performed by Carol Wincenc, internationally renowned flautist, and Marti Sweet, Associate Violinist for 16 years with the NYC Metropolitan Opera and many years with the American Ballet Theatre Orchestra. Carol Wincenc, at the outset of her legendary career, was hailed “Queen of the flute” by New York Magazine. She has received numerous awards including first prize winner of the Naumburg Solo Flute Competition, Lifetime Achievement Award from both the USA and China National Flute Associations, the National Society of Arts and Letters Gold Medal for Lifetime Achievement in Music, and more. Marti Sweet, directly after graduating Juilliard, joined the St. Paul Chamber Orchestra as its youngest member, and with the National Arts Centre Orchestra in Canada, recorded for the CBC. She has been concertmaster of the American Philharmonic Orchestra, the Spoleto Festival Orchestra (Italy), and concertmaster for Tony Bennett, Charles Aznavour and Carly Simon. She has appeared in concert and recorded with Barbra Streisand, Aretha Franklin, Wynton Marsalis, Quincy Jones, Julie Andrews, Placido Domingo, amongst others.

This year’s annual Wavelengths: Global Music Conference will take place on January 10, 2025 at the Hilton Hotel- Midtown, Concourse A, Downstairs.
The Wavelengths Conference is an annual gathering of a wide array of arts professionals, including: arts organizations, artists, venue managers, agents, managers, media, funders, activists, and others that are part of the global music community. The conference creates a space for dialogue around critical issues facing the field and operates as a social hub for networking. ABOUT VINNATUR
VinNatur is a formative association for emerging young winemakers and for those who may have experience on their shoulders but who know that you never actually stop learning. Attending a VinNatur fair means sharing the same passion for learning and discovering new things.
Each of the VinNatur winemakers have a different story to tell, but there is one common theme – the desire to put the terroir of their homeland into a wine bottle, while making as little impact as possible on the environment and making a wine that is authentic and alive.
VinNatur was founded in 2006 but many of our members have been making wine in this way since before then. A long time before terms such as “regenerative agriculture” or “natural wine” became trendy buzz words. Natural wine is at the forefront of the sustainable food and beverage movement. By choosing natural wines, you’re supporting small, eco-conscious producers who prioritize environmental health and biodiversity.
