From ADHD Financial Fog To Money Momentum 3 Fun Strategies to Fuel Focus, Feed Dopamine and Follow Through so that you can feel EMPOWERED about money management. @ online
Jul 1 all-day

About this event
Event lasts 1 hour
Traditional financial advice is the last thing the ADHD brain needs.
Think of the ADHD brain as a conqueror or an adventurer who thrives on quests and treasure hunts getting dopamine hits from finding clues and solving enigmas. Money management needs to be fun in orfer for you to stop avoiding it.
This free training will give you strategies and systems designed for your brain wired for play and novelty, all while being driven by rewards. You’ll discover what feeds focus, fuels dopamine and keeps interest high, not the one you pay on credit cards and loans, but the one that gives your brain the chance to get off the roller-coaster.

Frequently asked questions
What makes this different from other money webinars?
It’s ADHD-specific. It’s based on how your brain actually works: dopamine-first, interest-based, and deeply emotional. You will discover the Sacred Money Archetypes to help you understand why you do what you with money — and how to stop repeating those patterns.

Is this training really for me?
If you’re a Gen-X woman with ADHD who’s smart but scattered, emotionally exhausted by your money mess, and secretly embarrassed about how chaotic things feel despite making decent money — YES, it’s for you. This training is your turning point!

What if I already know I overspend impulsively? How will this help?
Knowing you do it isn’t the same as knowing how to stop. This training gives you ADHD-smart strategies that work. You’ll learn how to interrupt the cycle, redirect the dopamine pull, and build real momentum with money without boring yourself to tears.

What if I suck forget to show up?
ADHD life — I get it. Register anyway. You’ll get the replay even if your brain pulls a disappearing act. But live is better — there’s energy, connection, and I often throw in spontaneous bonuses or Q&As that don’t make it into the recording.

Is there a coaching offer at the end?
I’ll be real with you — yes, I’ll share how you can keep going with me after the free training if you want more support. But this isn’t one of those bait-and-switch events. You’ll leave with clarity, tools, and insight no matter what. That’s my promise.

What should I bring?
Yourself. Your ADHD brain. Something to write with. Oh, and give yourself the gift of one hour without multitasking — you deserve your own attention.

NEW YORK CITY, NY—Natural Hair Fest New York and AFROINTL Fashion Show NYC will be held on Sunday, July 6, 2025 at the Sheraton Brooklyn Hotel, located at 228 Duffield Street on the Lower Level in the MetroTech Ballroom, Brooklyn, NY 11201—-United States. Natural Hair Fest is a convention and celebration of natural beauty and proper regimens for hair and scalp maintenance through live product demonstrations, moderated discussions, and special guest appearances. Natural Hair Fest New York provides a supportive platform for those who embrace hair in its natural state, and also promotes the use of haircare and skincare regimens that contain natural, organic and vegan ingredients. This will be one of our biggest events of the year. Natural Hair Fest is a road show that allows emerging brands to engage new customers by way of face-to-face, in-person and online connections.

Create a Respectful and Open World for Natural Hair. This is the impetus behind the CROWN Act, the brainchild of State Senator Holly J. Mitchell of California. The CROWN Act became the first legislation passed at the state level in the United States that prohibits discrimination based on hairstyle and hair texture. This legislature protects the rights of Americans to embrace their natural hair, allowing all to wear styles such as braids, locs, twists, and knots in the workplace and public schools. The state of New York was second to sign the CROWN Act into law; furthermore, the states of Alaska, Arizona, Arkansas, California, Colorado, Connecticut, Delaware, Illinois, Louisiana, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Nebraska, Nevada, New Jersey, New Mexico, Oregon, Tennessee, Texas, Virginia and Washington have all signed the CROWN Act into law.

Having beautiful natural hair means having a healthy scalp, too. Since 2015, Natural Hair Fest has curated experiences centered around the natural hair community. The event boasts a full day of programming on the main stage to educate consumers and members of the beauty industry through presentations explaining the history of natural haircare, the nuances of haircare products, and the associated risks involved in chemical services.

“We promote self-love, self-care, health, wellness, and healthy hair and scalp irrespective of type or texture. We want everyone to embrace their natural hair unconditionally,” says Mark David Carter, founder of Natural Hair Fest Events and show producer/director of the 2025 Tour de Naturelle’. As we make our way across the country, we’re excite to the opportunity to celebrate with industry experts and some of the most amazing products in Brooklyn, New York. You’re invited to join us as we create a wonderful, immersive experience adjacent to downtown Brooklyn, and some of the Big Apple’s hottest summer attractions.”

Certain misconceptions as it relates to natural hair are still quite common around the globe. Natural Hair Fest functions to achieve these objectives:

Dispel misconceptions about Natural Hair;
Support those who feel challenged when caring for corse, thicker, fuller hair;
Help correct bad habits that lead to tangles, breakage, and hair damage;
Offer solutions for disorders of the hair and scalp;
Create a collaborative dialogue with industry experts on best practices and the benefits of natural hair;
Provide an open forum for Natural Hair stylists to showcase their talents, techniques, and
services;
Provide a specialty store styled marketplace dedicated to the care and maintenance of healthy Natural Hair.

MarkDavid says, “All hair is good hair. We have to love our roots to the tips or ends of our follicles! We want our guests to leave feeling beautiful and empowered. We bring together experts and pioneers from around the country to guide naturals and natural hair care professionals. We are in full support of those who aim to look their very best and understand the need to value their health and wellbeing. Guest with relaxed and color-treated hair can also benefit from the use of products with natural and organic ingredients. Everyone who wants to learn the proper way to care for their hair and scalp is encouraged to attend.”

Natural Hair Fest New York City creates an open, multicultural platform where members of the general public can meet professionals, mix, and mingle. This is an indoors, in-person event, where hair braiders, barbers, locticians, hair weaving experts, product distributers, salon owners, fashion and beauty stylists, estheticians, influencers and like-minded professionals can network with each and the general public and gain valuable, long-lasting takeaways.

More than 25 vendors will exhibit at Natural Hair Fest New York City, where guests will have an opportunity to interact with some of their favorite local small businesses and merchants from other cites abroad. Attendees can use this as an opportunity to have a face to face with the makers of newly released hair and skin care lines of product, immerse their senses with the actual items where they are able to smell, feel and look at the products in-person, and customers can discuss the latest trends in the market as it relates to the natural hair care profession. The natural hair community desires to support local entrepreneurs, find exclusive beauty products, and receive introductions to merchandise from around the country.

“We want everyone to celebrate their natural hair unconditionally. So, the summer season in July is a better timing to celebrate in downtown Brooklyn with the Festival’s “Tour de Naturelle,” which features a marketplace of unique vendors that offers products and services that compliment natural, spiritual lifestyle choices. We will be moments away from some of best attractions New York City has to offer, as we get ready to celebrate the 4th of July Independence Weekend,” says MarkDavid Carter.

The fun, excitement, education and networking begin Sunday, July 6th, at the SHERATON BROOKLYN HOTEL located at 228 Duffield Street in the MetroTech Ballroom. Beauty industry professionals, freelancers, students, and consumers are all invited to the ultimate networking opportunity with the natural hair community. Support festival vendors. Find the products and solutions you’ve been looking for. Register online today.

About this event
Event lasts 4 days 3 hours
Accumulation is an artistic technique which consists of bringing together a set of identical objects or those from the same family to form a work of art.

The purpose of this class will be to develop a method, and a process of working on a concept of accumulation. I hope that class will help students to open their mind or push their work in the potential of working on an accumulation theme. To do so, the students will work on multiple units, each unit will be fundamental, unique and singular by the size, volume, colors, texture and all together they’ll create a dialogue, trying to find a good balance and harmony to present an installation.

The students will explore how to figure out the possibilities that this material offers. At the end of the week, the goal will be to install each student’s works in an open space TBD just for the day to celebrate their accomplishments.

What to Expect: There will be some demos but it will mainly be supported work time and room for students to become familiar with this material. Expect failures along with successes. The hot shop is a loud studio, and can get quite warm. Clean-up time is included in the duration of class, and usually the last 20 minutes of class are dedicated to cleaning your workstation. Read more about how to prepare for class on our Registration Info page. Handling glass and tools may require a certain level of dexterity and ability to lift 5-10 lbs approximately. To learn more about accessibility the Accessibility page on our website.

Additional work time for intensive students: Students will also have access to additional hours in the hot shop, without instruction, on Wednesday – Saturday from 12-4pm. Students must be able to work safely in the studio, and be able to set up their area without needing instruction. Students participating in student hours will need to be approved by the instructor and TA’s.

Eligibility: Some previous experience required – students should be confident and competent gathering and moving through the steps of making a cup. All levels will be welcome, we’ll make teams by level. Open to ages 14 and up.

Pick-up: This class will end in an installation of students’ work, after which students will be able to bring their projects home. Should pieces need to be left at UrbanGlass, you will be notified to pick them up.

This is an in-person class taking place on-site at UrbanGlass. Health and safety guidelines will be emailed to you upon registration.

We recommend registering for classes early to reserve your spot! We base materials, and teacher needs off of student enrollment. Early registration not only guarantees your spot in class, but also helps to ensure the class will run. Classes with low enrollment may be cancelled within two weeks of the start date of class. Contact our Registrar of Education, Ari Eshoo, at arianna@urbanglass.org if you have questions about the class or would like to arrange a payment plan.

Board Game Speed Dating – Talea Beer Co – Williamsburg – (Ages 25-39) Searching for a partner can be frustrating. But board games are always awesome. So what if you combined board games and finding a partner? @ TALEA Beer Co - Williamsburg 87 Richardson Street Brooklyn, NY 11211 United States

About this event
Event lasts 2 hours
Searching for a partner can be frustrating. But board games are always awesome. So what if you combined board games and finding a partner?

Picture this: You sit down for a night of games. A gaming concierge walks you through several games over the course of the night. You play classics you love and discover brand new games you’ve never heard of, playing each with a different group of fun singles. All while in a great establishment with plenty of delicious options on tap. At the end of the night, you give your gaming concierge a list of the folks you met that you’d like to date and a list of those you met that you’d like to just hang out with as friends. If any two people put down the same name as each other in either column, then your gaming concierge will make sure you get each other’s e-mail address and you can coordinate a time to hang out.

Best case scenario: You find true love, discover some awesome board games, and make some new friends.

Bad case scenario: You accomplish only one of those three things, which is still pretty great.

Worst case scenario: There will be alcohol.

Before you decide to buy tickets, a few basics we should cover:

1) This event is for men & women, ages 25-39, looking to meet opposite-gender partners. If you’re looking for something different, head over to www.quirkevents.com/new-york to see what else we have to offer. (If you scroll all the way to the bottom of the page, you’ll be able to join our mailing list and get notified about future events. Plus, joining our mailing list gets you 50% off your first ticket purchase!)

2) This event begins at 7:00. Please make an effort to be timely. If you arrive later than 7:10, you may not meet all potential matches.

3)Refunds are only available to those who cancel with more than 48 hours’ notice, in order to make sure we have enough time to find a replacement for you and keep the event well-populated. (Exceptions will be made for emergency situations on a case-by-case basis). After that, we’re blowing the money from your ticket sale on something awesome and nonrefundable.

4) If we get to 24 hours before the event and still haven’t sold five tickets for each gender, we will cancel the event (and notify you). When we have run this event in the past, tickets have consistently sold very well, so we don’t expect this to happen. But we thought we should cover this in case it came up.

5) How many games we have and which ones we use will be based in part on how many people attend, so we can’t tell you for sure what we’ll have right now. But the goal is for all of them to be fun, light, easy-to-learn games. Selection will include games from both the something-you-have-played-before category and the something-you-haven’t-played-before category. The games are also chosen because they often tend to spark conversation and leave room for chatting with new people as you play. All games will be group games, meaning you’ll get a chance to meet a handful of people with each new round.

6) To stay up to date on all of out future events, follow us on Instagram here!

🔥 About this Event
Hacker Summer Camp kicks off right here in Brooklyn with Summercon 2025—a single-track, deeply technical, and extremely social hacker conference that’s been running since 1987.

What makes it special?

Top-tier security talks in a cozy, curated venue.
Legendary afterparties and in-person socializing.
A crowd that includes hackers, researchers, and decision-makers.

🗣 Programming Highlights
All speaker presentations take place at Littlefield.
Extra space to spread out: simulcast viewing and a lockpicking village at Lucky 13 Saloon (644 Sackett Street); simulcast and the vendor village at Wild East Brewing (632 Sackett Street).
From 10AM to 5PM on both days, Lucky 13 and Wild East Brewing will serve as our overflow venue and social hub. After 5PM, they reopen to the public.
Select talks will also be streamed online. If you’re joining us remotely, note that not all content may be broadcast due to speaker preferences—and you’ll definitely miss out on the in-person energy.
After-parties for all: at the conclusion of Day 1 presentations, stick around for Lucidity: Tame Impala Experience for a musical journey through pulsating rhythms, dreamy melodies, and kaleidoscopic sonic textures. Day 2 concludes with Summercon Movie Night, brought to you by Bishop Fox — you won’t want to miss it!

🧼 A Word About COVID (and Being Decent Humans)
We are going to have PTSD about COVID for a long time. As a result, some of our community still take precautions seriously—and we respect that.

So, while NYC does not require masks or proof of vaccination, we encourage the following:

Stay up to date on your COVID-19 and flu vaccines.
Feel free to wear a high-quality mask (KN95, KF94, etc.).
Stay home if you’re sick—our refund policy’s got your back.
Wash your hands. Seriously.
Be kind, be cool, and respect each other’s boundaries.

🏆 What Else?
As always, Summercon means:

Great presentations
Hacker hijinks of all kinds
Strong drinks and stronger opinions
And the reveal of this year’s Pwnie Award nominees
All attendees agree to follow the Summercon Code of Conduct.

See you in Brooklyn.
You don’t want to miss this.

Frequently asked questions
Will I get arrested if I do crimes?
Yes. Don’t do crimes. Crime is still illegal. As we wrote decades ago: “If you want to commit crimes, if you are interested in pulling fire alarms or breaking things, don’t come to this con. We aren’t here for that, and you shouldn’t be either.”

Is Summercon safe for women, LGBTQ+ folks, or people new to hacker cons?
Absolutely. We have a public Code of Conduct (https://www.summercon.org/our-code-of-conduct) and a no-bullshit enforcement policy. Come as you are—just don’t be a creep.

What’s the policy on doxing, harassment, or being a general menace?
Zero tolerance. You’ll be removed and possibly banned for life. If you see something, say something to anyone in a red staff shirt or call 720-586-HACK.

A viral linguist’s account of the ways our vocabularies are evolving, the internet’s influence on communication, and what our use of language reveals about the modern world

From the rise of leetspeak and words such as “skibidi” to the trend of adding “-core” to different influencer aesthetics, the internet has ushered in an unprecedented linguistic upheaval. We’re entering an entirely new era of etymology, heralded by the invisible forces driving social media algorithms. Thankfully, Algospeak is here to explain. As a professional linguist, Adam Aleksic understands the gravity of language and the way we use it: he knows the ways it has morphed and changed, how it reflects society, and how, in its everyday usage, we carry centuries of human history on our tongues. As a social media influencer, Aleksic is also intimately familiar with the internet’s reach and how social media impacts the way we engage with one another. New slang emerges and goes viral overnight. Accents are shaped or erased on YouTube. Grammatical rules, loopholes, and patterns surface and transform language as we know it. Our interactions—and our social norms and habits—shift into something completely different.

As Aleksic uses original surveys, data, and internet archival research to usher us through this new linguistic landscape, he also illuminates how communication is changing in both familiar and unprecedented ways. From our use of emojis to sentence structure to the ways younger generations talk about sex and death (see unalive in English and desvivirse in Spanish), we are in a brand-new world, one shaped by algorithms and technology. Algospeak is an energetic, astonishing journey into language, the internet, and what this intersection means for all of us.

Adam Aleksic is a linguist and content creator posting educational videos as the “Etymology Nerd” to an audience of more than two million. As a linguistics student at Harvard College, he founded and served as president of the Harvard Undergraduate Linguistics Society. He’s discussed online language on NPR and repeatedly contributed to The Washington Post, and his work has been mentioned in The New York Times, The Economist, and The Guardian. He’s lectured on language and social media at Stanford, Yale, Georgetown, and other top universities, including a TEDx talk at the University of Pennsylvania. Aleksic is based in New York City, where he spends a lot of time scrolling TikTok for “research.”

She is almost done writing a book about Wikipedia behind-the-scenes delights and drama, which will be published next year by Little, Brown.
