From the bestselling author of Salt, Fat, Acid, Heat—and one of America’s most beloved chefs and teachers—125 meticulously tested, flavor-forward, soul-nourishing recipes that bring joy and a sense of communion
With all the generosity of spirit that has endeared her to millions of fans, Samin Nosrat offers more than 125 of her favorite recipes—simply put, the things she most loves to cook for herself and for friends—and infuses them with all the beauty and care you would expect from the person Alice Waters called “America’s next great cooking teacher.” As Samin says, “Recipes, like rituals, endure because they’re passed down to us—whether by ancestors, neighbors, friends, strangers on the internet, or me to you. A written recipe is just a shimmering decoy for the true inheritance: the thread of connection that cooking it will unspool.”
Good Things is an essential, joyful guide to cooking and living, whether you’re looking for a comforting tomato soup to console a struggling friend, seeking a deeper sense of connection in your life, or hosting a dinner for ten in your too-small dining room. Here you’ll find go-to recipes for ricotta custard pancakes, a showstopping roast chicken burnished with saffron, a crunchy, tingly Calabrian chili crisp, super-chewy sky-high focaccia, and a decades-in-the-making, childhood-evoking yellow cake with chocolate frosting. Along the way, you’ll also find plenty of tips, techniques, and lessons, from how to buy olive oil (check the harvest date) to when to splurge (salad dressing is where you want to use your best ingredients) to the best uses for your pressure cooker (chicken stock and dulce de leche, naturally).
Good Things captures, with Samin’s trademark blend of warmth, creativity, and precision, what has made cooking such an important source of delight and comfort in her life.
Samin Nosrat is a cook, teacher, and author of the James Beard Award-winning #1 New York Times bestseller Salt, Fat, Acid, Heat. She was named one of Time’s 100 Most Influential People in the World and Chef of the Year by Eater. She is the co-host of the Home Cooking podcast, a former Eat columnist at The New York Times Magazine, and the host of the Netflix original documentary series based on her book Salt, Fat, Acid, Heat. She lives in Oakland, California.
Max Linsky co-created the journalism website longform.org and co-hosted the Longform Podcast, which wrapped a twelve year run in 2024. He also co-founded Pineapple Street Studios, the podcast company behind Wind of Change, Missing Richard Simmons, Hysterical and 70 Over 70, which Max created and hosted.

The Information’s AI Agenda Live: The Next Wave on Tuesday, September 30, 2025 in New York City will help attendees make sense of what’s coming in the field, from new research breakthroughs to bleeding-edge AI applications. Hosted by Stephanie Palazzolo, Amir Efrati and other reporters from The Information, AI Agenda Live: The Next Wave will feature fireside chats and lively panel discussions with leading AI executives, startup founders, the VCs who back them and business customers who use AI effectively.
Attendees will be able to talk and learn from these leaders, with plenty of time for live Q&A and networking.
Among the topics we’ll explore:
What do upcoming models from OpenAI, Anthropic and Google reveal about AI capabilities?
Which traditional enterprise apps and cloud services could AI eventually replace?
Which white-collar industries will experience the most change from AI?
Can open-source AI (DeepSeek, Llama) keep pace with proprietary models (e.g. OpenAI) and should businesses embrace it?
What new model architectures could replace the transformer?
How are enterprises using new AI such as reasoning models and agents?
What kinds of agents or autonomous products are proving effective?
Thank you to our Presenting Partner, WEKA, Premier Partners SAP and Nebius, and Supporting Partner, Brave.

This fall, with the myceliation spreadig around, there will emerge the greatest fungal festival ever to fruit in New York City!
Get ready for our third Fungus Festival, organized by the New York Mycological Society, in partnership with Randall’s Island Park Alliance.
This year we have a huge flush of fungal partners, presenters and arts! We are excited to celebrate the city’s mycelial network, and showcase the breadth of mycological creativity here in New York City.
Come explore diverse displays and programs at the intersection of community art and science, including identification tables of wild mushrooms from the New York area, art and nature workshops and activities, lectures, yoga, tastings, urban farms, food vendors, games and so much more.
This festival is free and open to all!
Please register for this free event to receive updates on Festival programming and to be informed about registration for walks and workshops!
Full program
We’ve got lots going on – fresh mushrooms, arts and crafts, vendor tables, activities, talks, displays, walks, artists selling their work, vendors, food and more! Find out about all the action in our official program.
Register for activities with limited capacity
We’re expecting well over a 1000 mushroom-lovers, but some activities can handle only a limited number of participants. For those we have created registrations. We expect them to fill up quickly, so sign up ASAP to reserve a spot.
Note that there are dozens of activities that don’t require registrations!
If you were unable to reserve a spot for any of these events, we recommend following these organizations and individuals on social media since many organize these kinds of activities at other times of the year. Their contact information can be found in the program.
Rain Advisory
With all the rain heading our way, we should have a great spread of mushrooms at the ID station this year. However, please be advised that this event will take place rain or shine. In the case of inclement weather, the festival might be modified or canceled.
Plan your travel
The event will be taking place on Randall’s Island Urban Farm on Sunday, October 5 from 11am to 3pm. The address is 11 Wards Meadow Loop, Randall’s Island 10035. Find a map of Randall’s Island here. A detailed page on getting to Randall’s Island can be found here.
Get there on foot or by bicycle
From 103rd St, Manhattan: The 103rd Street Footbridge in Manhattan is open to pedestrians and cyclists 365 days per year, 24 hours per day, and connects the East River Esplanade/FDR Drive at 103rd Street with the southern end of Randall’s Island Park.
From 125th Street, Manhattan: A walkway along the RFK Triborough Bridge runs between 125th Street and 2nd Avenue and the northwestern section of Randall’s Island Park. Note: the ramp on this walkway exceeds ADA code.
From the Bronx: The Randall’s Island Connector runs under the arches of the Hell Gate Bridge railroad trestle between 132nd Street at Willow/Walnut Avenues in the Bronx and the northern shore of Randall’s Island Park.
From Queens: A walkway runs along the RFK Triborough Bridge between Hoyt Avenue and 28th Street, adjacent to the Astoria Boulevard N/W subway station, and the midpoint of Randall’s Island Park, adjacent to the Central Fields. Note: due to stairs this pathway is not ADA accessible.
Get there by public transit
The M35 bus runs to the Island from the Northwest corner of 125th Street and Lexington Avenue. Transfer is available from the Lexington Avenue 4, 5 or 6 subway at 125th Street. Get off at Hell Gate Circle Opposite Odyssey House. Randall’s Island Urban Farm is about a minute’s walk from there.
Get there by car
Use your favorite app or rideshare company to get to the Festival. The address you want to enter is 11 Wards Meadow Loop, Randall’s Island 10035. Note that there is no parking near the Festival. We recommend parking by Icahn Stadium which is a 15 minute walk away.
What to bring
Bring a blanket and spread out – there’s lots of space to hang!
Consider bringing a refillable water bottle to save money and prevent waste.
Bring mushrooms – our experts are happy to ID them for you.
Kids are welcome! We have several activities for little mushroom lovers.
Support our work!
The festival is free to attend, but not free to create! Please support us by donating to the New York Mycological Society via PayPal payments@newyorkmyc.org or Venmo @newyorkmyc or Stripe

Fungus Festival 2025 is organized by the New York Mycological Society.
We also thank the Randall’s Island Park Alliance for their partnership and all of our partners and volunteers without whom Fungus Festival would not be possible.
A bout our Festival flyer
Our amazing Festival Flyer was created by NYMS member Juli Sasaki.
Juli Sasaki is a graphic designer for film, a yogi, and a devoted mycophile. Her fascination with fungi began in childhood, foraging for oyster mushrooms alongside her grandmother in Ohio. That early experience sparked a greater curiosity about mushrooms for both culinary and medicinal purposes. After joining the New York Mycological Society, Juli discovered that nearly anything can be explored through the lens of fungi—and she’s been joyfully lost in that world ever since. This year’s poster is inspired by the fleeting presence of fungi. Appearing after rainfall, they can reveal themselves as if by magic—much like the cyanotype printing process. The design incorporates this analog technique, combined with other visual elements that echo the same sense of impermanence and handmade artistry.
About the New York Mycological Society
The New York Mycological Society is New York City’s very own mushroom club and open to anyone with an interest in fungi. The club was founded 61 years ago by avantgarde composer John Cage and friends. Our 1,400+ members enjoy walks every weekend, ID session, lectures, workshops and much more. Our mission is to document the amazing fungal diversity in New York City’s parks for science and conservation and create greater awareness for the wonderful world of fungi.
A bout the Randall’s Island Park Alliance
The Randall’s Island Park Alliance is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization that works with the City of New York and local communities to provide an innovative and exciting destination through a wide range of sports venues, cultural events and environmental exploration. As the dedicated steward of Randall’s Island Park, the Alliance sustains, maintains, develops and programs the Park to support the wellbeing of all New Yorkers.
Frequently asked questions
Can I bring my dog?
Leashed dogs are welcome
Is the venue accessible?
Randall’s Island Urban Farm is a farm and paths are mostly wood chips. The main area is a grassy field. They can be navigated by sturdy wheelchairs. We will ensure there is enough space to navigate. There will be ADA-compliant bathrooms. Please reach out to the organizers with specific questions.
What happens if it rains?
The Festival will proceed in light rain. We will cancel only if there is enduring heavy rain and/or thunderstorms.
