About this event

This fall, with the myceliation spreadig around, there will emerge the greatest fungal festival ever to fruit in New York City!

Get ready for our third Fungus Festival, organized by the New York Mycological Society, in partnership with Randall’s Island Park Alliance.

This year we have a huge flush of fungal partners, presenters and arts! We are excited to celebrate the city’s mycelial network, and showcase the breadth of mycological creativity here in New York City.

Come explore diverse displays and programs at the intersection of community art and science, including identification tables of wild mushrooms from the New York area, art and nature workshops and activities, lectures, yoga, tastings, urban farms, food vendors, games and so much more.

This festival is free and open to all!

Please register for this free event to receive updates on Festival programming and to be informed about registration for walks and workshops!

Full program

We’ve got lots going on – fresh mushrooms, arts and crafts, vendor tables, activities, talks, displays, walks, artists selling their work, vendors, food and more! Find out about all the action in our official program.

Register for activities with limited capacity

We’re expecting well over a 1000 mushroom-lovers, but some activities can handle only a limited number of participants. For those we have created registrations. We expect them to fill up quickly, so sign up ASAP to reserve a spot.

Note that there are dozens of activities that don’t require registrations!

If you were unable to reserve a spot for any of these events, we recommend following these organizations and individuals on social media since many organize these kinds of activities at other times of the year. Their contact information can be found in the program.

Rain Advisory

With all the rain heading our way, we should have a great spread of mushrooms at the ID station this year. However, please be advised that this event will take place rain or shine. In the case of inclement weather, the festival might be modified or canceled.

Plan your travel

The event will be taking place on Randall’s Island Urban Farm on Sunday, October 5 from 11am to 3pm. The address is 11 Wards Meadow Loop, Randall’s Island 10035. Find a map of Randall’s Island here. A detailed page on getting to Randall’s Island can be found here.

Get there on foot or by bicycle

From 103rd St, Manhattan: The 103rd Street Footbridge in Manhattan is open to pedestrians and cyclists 365 days per year, 24 hours per day, and connects the East River Esplanade/FDR Drive at 103rd Street with the southern end of Randall’s Island Park.

From 125th Street, Manhattan: A walkway along the RFK Triborough Bridge runs between 125th Street and 2nd Avenue and the northwestern section of Randall’s Island Park. Note: the ramp on this walkway exceeds ADA code.

From the Bronx: The Randall’s Island Connector runs under the arches of the Hell Gate Bridge railroad trestle between 132nd Street at Willow/Walnut Avenues in the Bronx and the northern shore of Randall’s Island Park.

From Queens: A walkway runs along the RFK Triborough Bridge between Hoyt Avenue and 28th Street, adjacent to the Astoria Boulevard N/W subway station, and the midpoint of Randall’s Island Park, adjacent to the Central Fields. Note: due to stairs this pathway is not ADA accessible.

Get there by public transit

The M35 bus runs to the Island from the Northwest corner of 125th Street and Lexington Avenue. Transfer is available from the Lexington Avenue 4, 5 or 6 subway at 125th Street. Get off at Hell Gate Circle Opposite Odyssey House. Randall’s Island Urban Farm is about a minute’s walk from there.

Get there by car

Use your favorite app or rideshare company to get to the Festival. The address you want to enter is 11 Wards Meadow Loop, Randall’s Island 10035. Note that there is no parking near the Festival. We recommend parking by Icahn Stadium which is a 15 minute walk away.

What to bring

Bring a blanket and spread out – there’s lots of space to hang!

Consider bringing a refillable water bottle to save money and prevent waste.

Bring mushrooms – our experts are happy to ID them for you.

Kids are welcome! We have several activities for little mushroom lovers.

Support our work!

The festival is free to attend, but not free to create! Please support us by donating to the New York Mycological Society via PayPal payments@newyorkmyc.org or Venmo @newyorkmyc or Stripe

-The Organizers

Fungus Festival 2025 is organized by the New York Mycological Society.

We also thank the Randall’s Island Park Alliance for their partnership and all of our partners and volunteers without whom Fungus Festival would not be possible.

A bout our Festival flyer

Our amazing Festival Flyer was created by NYMS member Juli Sasaki.

Juli Sasaki is a graphic designer for film, a yogi, and a devoted mycophile. Her fascination with fungi began in childhood, foraging for oyster mushrooms alongside her grandmother in Ohio. That early experience sparked a greater curiosity about mushrooms for both culinary and medicinal purposes. After joining the New York Mycological Society, Juli discovered that nearly anything can be explored through the lens of fungi—and she’s been joyfully lost in that world ever since. This year’s poster is inspired by the fleeting presence of fungi. Appearing after rainfall, they can reveal themselves as if by magic—much like the cyanotype printing process. The design incorporates this analog technique, combined with other visual elements that echo the same sense of impermanence and handmade artistry.

About the New York Mycological Society

The New York Mycological Society is New York City’s very own mushroom club and open to anyone with an interest in fungi. The club was founded 61 years ago by avantgarde composer John Cage and friends. Our 1,400+ members enjoy walks every weekend, ID session, lectures, workshops and much more. Our mission is to document the amazing fungal diversity in New York City’s parks for science and conservation and create greater awareness for the wonderful world of fungi.

A bout the Randall’s Island Park Alliance

The Randall’s Island Park Alliance is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization that works with the City of New York and local communities to provide an innovative and exciting destination through a wide range of sports venues, cultural events and environmental exploration. As the dedicated steward of Randall’s Island Park, the Alliance sustains, maintains, develops and programs the Park to support the wellbeing of all New Yorkers.

Frequently asked questions

Can I bring my dog?
Leashed dogs are welcome

Is the venue accessible?
Randall’s Island Urban Farm is a farm and paths are mostly wood chips. The main area is a grassy field. They can be navigated by sturdy wheelchairs. We will ensure there is enough space to navigate. There will be ADA-compliant bathrooms. Please reach out to the organizers with specific questions.

What happens if it rains?
The Festival will proceed in light rain. We will cancel only if there is enduring heavy rain and/or thunderstorms.

About this event
Music
Pioneer Works is excited to team up with Public Records to present Tomorrow Comes the Harvest: Jeff Mills featuring Jean Phi Dary & Prabhu Edouard with special guest Rasheeda Ali in the Pioneer Works Main Hall.

Tomorrow Comes The Harvest is the cumulative effort of talented musicians and their shared visions of what makes the art form of music so special.

The concept was initiated and brought to life by the late Afrobeat creator and Nigerian drummer Tony Allen and Detroit techno pioneer Jeff Mills. Each artist belongs to a long tradition of using music to reach higher levels of consciousness. Joined by veteran keyboardist Jean-Phi Dary, the trio toured internationally until the untimely passing of Tony Allen in 2020. By then, however, the foundation of the project had been firmly established and was ready to evolve. Mills has reconfigured the concept once more as a trio, inviting tabla virtuoso Prabhu Edouard to join the ensemble.

Tomorrow Comes The Harvest is about exploring the unknown—transcending boundaries through the intersection of sound and rhythm, guided by an array of improvisational movement

WHAT IS A ONE-DAY CHOIR?

Gaia Music Collective’s One-Day Choir series is an opportunity to sing in a choir for one day only. A celebration of song and the connective power of singing in harmony. An opportunity to build community, make some new friends, and raise our powerfully diverse voices as one.

No auditions. No commitment. No need for perfection.

Just the joy of creating something bigger than ourselves with a room full of beautiful humans!

Whether you’re a vocal ensemble veteran or have never sung in a group before, you are welcome here – all experience levels are valued in Gaia Music Collective!

OUR SONG THIS TIME AROUND

This time, we’re diving into a phenomenon that has taken the world by storm: K-Pop Demon Hunters!!! This record-shattering film has not only broken records but also ignited a wave of love for the vibrant sound of K-pop. At the heart of it all is the electrifying anthem “Golden” – an infectious track that pulses with themes of empowerment, resilience, and an unstoppable energy.

This One-Day Choir will be re-imagining “Golden” and “What It Sounds Like” as a choral anthem, arranged and led by Gaia’s founder Matt Goldstein. We will take this iconic melody and infuse it with soaring harmonies, interlocking rhythms, and a sweeping climax that bring this song to new heights. Join us as we celebrate the joy and empowerment that K-Pop Demon Hunters embodies, while honoring the music of K-pop and the global community it has inspired!

P.S. We want to honor Golden, What It Sounds Like and K-pop with care. If you are fluent in Korean or connected to K-pop culture and would be excited to support our choir with pronunciation or cultural context, we’d love to connect. Your guidance will help us celebrate this music with respect and authenticity. If interested, reach out to Matt at mattgoldsteinmusic@gmail.com.

LEARNING THE MUSIC

Sheet music and vocal recordings of each part will be available as learning resources before the event, and our collective goal is to practice the parts ahead of time so that we might come into the gathering with ! This way we can spend our time together really diving into the richness of music-making, rather than trying to teach the parts one by one. We don’t need to know our parts by heart by any means (and you defffinitely don’t have to memorize it), but the stronger we are in our parts coming in, the more we’ll be able to really dig into the fun stuff!

(If this style of learning isn’t your cup of tea, we have other group singing events where you don’t need to prepare at all! Check out our CircleSinging gatherings and House Shows.)

LED AND FACILITATED BY:

This session will be facilitated by our amazing Founder and Lead Facilitator, Matt Goldstein.

Matt Goldstein (he/him) is an award-winning arranger, facilitator, improviser, songwriter, and educator who is known for his emotive vocal arrangements, soulful singing, heart-forward facilitation, and visionary leadership. After making waves in the a cappella scene as music director of The Vassar Devils and Hyannis Sound, he went on to found Gaia Music Collective, a collaborative music community that is achieving international recognition for its work in creating kind, connective, accessible spaces for musical play and expression. He currently serves as Gaia’s Co-Director and Lead Facilitator, while also performing as an improviser and singer-songwriter, directing at A Cappella Academy, leading Rock Voices (a community pop-rock choir), and teaching vocal improv intensives through Flow Labs.

COMMUNITY GUIDELINES

At Gaia Music Collective, we are dedicated to building a community where creativity, collaboration, and care thrive. The values listed here shape how we work together, how we engage with the world, and how we move toward upholding these principles.

OUR MISSION

Gaia Music Collective is an NYC-based creative community seeking to foster a more connected world through collective music-making. Founded in June of 2021 in a living room in Brooklyn, this project was born out of a desire to create accessible, inclusive, playful spaces for people to explore connection, expression, healing, and release through collaborative song – spaces where folks feel empowered to make music free of judgment or expectation, and to make new friends as our full, beautiful, authentic selves.

We believe that communal music-making is a fundamental human practice, and this project seeks to build spaces for folks to nurture their relationship to music, whether they’re shower singers, professional musicians, or anything in between.

All are welcome in this community: all ages, races, genders, sexual orientations, classes, religions, abilities, national origins, languages, and musical experiences. All we ask is that you bring an open mind, a desire to connect, and a willingness to leave judgment of self and others at the door.

From TikTok star and the author of I Didn’t Know I Needed This Eli Rallo, a reflection on the anxiety of transitioning into adulthood, navigating the quarter-life crisis, and realizing you’re actually not alone.

Does anyone else feel like they’re the only one having a quarter-life crisis? As a senior in college, Eli Rallo expected her post-grad years to be filled with certainty, that she would finally feel that she was the “adult” she had long dreamed she’d be, with a cool job, an amazing apartment, fabulous friends, and lots of fun and flirty date nights. Instead she was met with crippling social anxiety, no idea what direction her career was taking, an inability to stop comparing herself to her peers’ picture-perfect lives on social media, and a looming sense that she may never feel certain—about her dating life, friendships, career, or even herself.

With deep honesty, raw emotions, humor, and relatability, Eli analyzes life in your twenties with a candid and heartfelt approach, asking and answering questions like:

How do you manage losing a best friend?
How do you know who you are or what you want to do with your life?
How do you find time and space for all of your priorities?
How do you navigate the choppy waters of the social media world, and not fall victim to the comparison game?
What happens when the timeline you made for yourself as a child is long in your past?
How do you know you’re making the right decisions?
Even though early adulthood doesn’t look just like Sex and the City or Thirteen Going on Thirty the way Eli thought it would, with Does Anyone Else Feel This Way? Eli shows you that you’re not the only one who misses the days when they could swing by the dining hall or just wants to call their mom to make it all go away. With a look at her own misadventures and hard-won life lessons, Eli shares the journey she’s been on to find herself as an adult, and the twists and turns she’s taken while navigating her own quarter-life crisis.

Eli Rallo is the author of I Didn’t Know I Needed This and an internet creator with massive followings on TikTok and Instagram. She is the founder of Prose Hoes Literary Salon, the previous host of the Miss Congeniality podcast, and a graduate of Columbia University’s Graduate School of Journalism and the University of Michigan School of Music, Theatre & Dance. When she isn’t writing or TikTok-ing, you can find her at piano bars in the Village belting out show tunes.

Maisie Peters is one of the UK’s brightest talents. As the first female signee to Ed Sheeran’s Gingerbread Man Records, she has built one of pop’s most dedicated fanbases across two critically acclaimed albums and over a billion streams. Her 2023 album, ‘The Good Witch’, hit #1 on the Official Album Chart, making her the youngest British female solo artist to achieve this since 2014. That same year, she received Rolling Stone UK’s inaugural Breakthrough Award. Maisie’s extensive touring includes sold-out global headline shows (including London’s OVO Arena Wembley), support slots for Taylor Swift, Coldplay, Noah Kahan, and Conan Gray, as well as a performance on Glastonbury’s iconic Pyramid Stage.

About this event
Music • Metal
LPR Presents and Pioneer Works invite you to an evening of immersive metal and rock transcendence in the Pioneer Works Main Hall with a rare stateside appearance by doom metal titans YOB.

Celebrating 25 years of genre-defying sonic ritual, YOB bring their singular blend of meditative heaviness and cathartic release to Brooklyn for one night only, alongside the Virginia-formed doom metal band Windhand. Revered for their deeply communal live performances, YOB turns every set into a shared act of transformation

About the artist

“Slow is fast,” says Mike Scheidt, guitarist and vocalist of Oregon doom metal trio YOB—a band whose immersive, slow-burning sound has evolved over 25 years into something truly transcendent. With bassist Aaron Rieseberg and drummer Dave French, YOB crafts massive, meditative compositions that explore the edges of human experience, blending pulverizing sludge with moments of luminous clarity.

Formed in the late ’90s, YOB emerged from the stoner doom lineage of Sleep and Black Sabbath, but quickly developed a signature style—pendulous riffs, skyward vocals, and deeply introspective lyrics influenced by Scheidt’s Buddhist and Advaita Vedanta spiritual practices. Their albums, from Elaborations of Carbon (2002) to Our Raw Heart (2018), reflect a steady deepening in both sound and self-inquiry.

After a hiatus in the mid-2000s, YOB returned with renewed intensity, building a devoted following through relentless touring and acclaimed records like Atma and Clearing the Path to Ascend (Rolling Stone’s 2014 Metal Album of the Year). Their live shows are legendary for their emotional weight and sonic gravity—spaces of collective release where, as Scheidt puts it, “the crowd and the band are not two things.”

YOB continues to evolve, with compositions that stretch across time and feeling, forged by a trio of musicians attuned to each other’s deepest intuitions. Their music doesn’t offer easy answers—but in its searching, it opens a space for presence, healing, and transformation. As Scheidt says, “Our music is medicine for us. If it’s that for anyone else, it’s an immense honor.”
