This Is Not This Heat with Yvette at (le) poisson rouge

7:00 pm doors | 8:00 pm show | 18+

$30 advance | $35 day of show

Within their two albums and an EP, This Heat perfected a strange and volatile new strain of avant-garde rock that time has proved to be massively influential, a blueprint for much that would follow: post-rock, math rock, homemade musique concrète, experimental electronica…..

Although widely considered to be Post-Punk’s finest they actually began performing their music in the early days of London’s punk era. Ahead of their time, their music sounds as startlingly original and relevant, live and on record, as the day it was created.

Exactly 40 years to the day of their first gig in 1976 the two surviving members (Bullen and Hayward) of the original three came together with a large group of collaborators to play under the project title of THIS IS NOT THIS HEAT. Selling out a two-day residency at London’s Café Oto in a matter of hours the consensus was unanimous that all present had been witness to something of cultural significance. Flooded with invitations from around the world, 2017 saw THIS IS NOT THIS HEAT take to the road.

“… It does feel like we’ve been witness to something special. A fine body of work has been brought to life with energy and vitality that seems improbable nearly 40 years after the fact.” – The Wire
“This doesn’t feel like nostalgia but a new beginning” –The Guardian

“Bowie and I hit it off insanely and talked about Mishima and This Heat and all sorts of stuff”
–Arcade Fire’s Owen Pallett on meeting David Bowie

“I get asked to play more music like This Heat, but to my knowledge, there is no other music like This Heat”
– John Peel

Scott Metzger and Friends: The Who

Nels Cline Plays Santana (feat. Craig Taborn)

For countless guitarists Woodstock was a life-changing experience. Now fifty years later AGS brings together some of our era’s most singular improvising guitarists to seek new vistas with this powerful, epochal music. We are not covering these artists. Rather we are using the Woodstock repertoire as vehicles for exploration. We aim to bring a sense of adventure, peace, love, funk, and freedom to the concert, all of which characterized the initial event.

The Alternative Guitar Summit, founded in 2010, is a yearly summit of daring, inventive players who emphasize new and unusual approaches to the guitar. The music we present celebrates the guitar’s enormous range, beyond style or genre.

The AGS seeks to commission new work, whether improvised, notated, or both. We also celebrate important historical figures and events in the guitar’s history.

Joel Harrison is the founder of The Summit

Everett Bradley is one of the most esteemed singers in NYC having toured with Bruce Springsteen, Paul McCartney and hundreds of others

Brandon Seabrook is a one-of-a-kind wild man who will blow your mind

Ben Monder is considered to be one of the great jazz guitarists of his generation

Anupam Shobhakar is considered to be one of the great young sarode players in N. Indian classical music

Selvaganesh was part of John McLaughlin’s seminal band Shakti and is one of the great percussionists of our time

Scott Metzger is best known as a member of Joe Russo’s Already Dead, which redefines what a Grateful Dead cover band can be.

Nels Cline is a member of the band Wilco and was called one of the 100 best guitarists of all time by Rolling Stone

CELEBRATING BRONX HUSTLE

IT’S THE BRONX, a celebration of Bronx hustle is a festival, designed by ROUND SEVEN to proudly showcase the talent and innovative spirit that embodies our borough by way of music, art, media, and food. The preview event to the festival takes place on January 26th at The Bronx Brewery.

The first ever 3-day IT’S THE BRONX festival will be held as planned at the Union Crossing building on March 2019.

Following the success of the 2018 season of the Bronx Night Market with 12K+ in attendance each event, we’ve put together a unique group of Bronx minds to create an event that focuses on entrepreneurship, excellence, and get s#it done characteristics. This time focusing more on music, art, and food. Our end goal is to build a new tradition in the form of an annual series of events that gives shine to local talent, philanthropists, and the economically growing community.

RBG: Special Screening Reception and Panel Discussion @ Center for Jewish History 15 West 16th Street New York, NY 10011 United States | | |

At the age of 85, U.S. Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg has developed a lengthy legal legacy while becoming an unexpected pop culture icon. But the unique personal journey of her rise to the nation’s highest court has been largely unknown, even to some of her biggest fans – until now. RBG explores Ginsburg’s life and career. The film captures Ginsburg’s determination as she goes from being a brilliant legal scholar shunned by law firms because of her gender to a masterful appellate litigator who advanced women’s rights by arguing and winning several key cases before the nine men on the Supreme Court in the 1970s, and then finally to her role as a member of the Court.

Join MALA and the Center for Jewish History for a special screening and panel discussion of this critically acclaimed award-winning documentary. We will be joined by two of RBG’s filmmakers, Associate Producer Nadine Natour and Director/Producer Julie Cohen for an in depth conversation on their journeys in chronicling the life and career of Ruth Bader Ginsburg.

About the Speakers:

Julie Cohen has directed and produced nine feature documentaries, including RBG (Magnolia, Participant, CNN Films), The Sturgeon Queens (7th Art Releasing/PBS); and American Veteran (Freestyle). She has won a duPont Columbia Award, two Gracie Awards, three New York Emmy Awards and the 2017 Panavision Showcase Award for best New York filmmaker. Before she started making documentaries, Julie was a staff producer for Dateline NBC and the creator and producer of Supreme Court Watch on Court TV. She holds a B.A. from Colgate and masters’ degrees from Columbia Journalism School and Yale Law School.

The associate producer of RBG, Nadine Natour has shot, field produced, and edited a feature-length doc, American Veteran (Freestyle Releasing; Winner of the G.I. Film Festival Founders Award and the Panavision Showcase Award), and co-edited The Sturgeon Queens (PBS: 2015 Berlinale Official Selection). She is a 2009 graduate of the University of Virginia and a 2012 graduate of the Columbia Journalism School and a 2012 – 2013 News Associate at NBC.

Paul M. Barrett (program moderator) joined the NYU Center for Business and Human Rights as deputy director in September 2017 after spending more than three decades as a journalist and author focusing on the intersection of business, law, and society. Most recently, Paul worked for 12 years for Bloomberg Businessweek magazine, and from 1986 to 2005, he wrote for The Wall Street Journal, serving as the newspaper’s Supreme Court correspondent and later as the page one special projects editor. He is the author of four critically acclaimed nonfiction books, the most recent of which are GLOCK: The Rise of America’s Gun (2012), a New York Times Bestseller, and Law of the Jungle: The $19 Billion Legal Battle Over Oil in the Rain Forest and the Lawyer Who’d Stop at Nothing to Win (2014). Both of those books have been optioned for Hollywood movies. An adjunct professor at New York University School of Law since 2008, Paul is married to RBG director Julie Cohen.

If you’ve been meaning to take a trip to the wineries of the Finger Lakes, Greater Niagara region, North Fork or the Hudson Valley but haven’t had the time, consider letting them come to you instead.

The 8th annual NY Drinks NY Grand Tasting will offer over 200 wines from almost 50 wineries across the state at The Rainbow Room, high atop Rockefeller Center. A quintessentially New York institution, the Rainbow Room has welcomed guests for over eight decades in an opulent, glamorous and iconic destination. In addition to wine, there will also be a spread of New York cheeses and charcuterie with artisan breads and sweet butter.

In addition to Finger Lakes, Hudson Valley and Long Island wines, you’ll also be able to sample some made as far away as the Niagara Escarpment region of Western New York.

The Past, Present and Future of New York’s Hybrid Grapes
1:00 PM to 2:00 PM – Moderated by Pascaline Lepeltier, MS and Mike Colizzi, Viticulturist, Cornell
New York state boasts well over a century of fine wine production. But what exactly were the grapes that went into the wines that made their way to 19th century Europe to claim medals? And what about the subsequent phases of wine-grape exploration that followed in the university? In this seminar, we’ll explore the history of hybrid grape wine production that began with our native labrusca grapes then transitioned to the cold-hardy crosses that take history in France as well as our own universities, such as Cornell. Join sommelier Pascaline Lepeltier, MS, and viticulturist Mike Colizzi of the Cornell Agriculture Experiment Station in Geneva, who, along with six of our state’s winemakers, will moderate this seminar with an approach that addresses the past, present, and future of these grapes so important to northeastern North American wine culture.

Thirsty Owl Wine Company, 2017 Traminette, Finger Lakes (Shawn Kime)
Keuka Lake Vineyards, 2017 “Turkey Run” Vignoles, Finger Lakes (Staci Nugent)

Simply Red: Exploring the Variety of Red Vinifera Grapes from Across New York
3:00 PM to 4:00 PM – Moderated by Erin Scala, Sommalier and Mike Colizzi, Viticulturist, Cornell University
From the east end of Long Island, all the way to the northwest corner of the Niagara Escarpment, our state produces a diversity of red wines almost too vast to believe. Join sommelier and journalist Erin Scala, as well as Cornell viticulturist and vineyard owner Mike Colizzi, for this deep dive into our state’s red vinifera grapes. This seminar will present a variety of red wines and their vignerons from the North Fork of Long Island, the Hudson Valley, the Finger Lakes, and the New York side of the Niagara Escarpment, of different structural textures, from rich blends with almost a decade of age to single variety bottlings of light, refreshing reds for the table or the bar.

Feminine hygiene products are a financial burden on all women, but it’s even worse for women in need. Their access to tampons and pads is non-existent and often overlooked. But we can help!

Aparna Nancherla

Liza Treyger

Joyelle Nicole Johnson

Ilana Glazer

In addition to the show, there is an exciting raffle with some of the dopest prizes imaginable (last year had everything from fancy manicures to restaurant gift cards). And load up on feminine hygiene products, because every box tampons or pads you bring you get FREE RAFFLE TICKETS.
