Going Natural celebrates its 15th anniversary with Hair Show
At the 15th anniversary of Going-Natural.com, I would like to give homage to the natural hair stylists and salons who rooted the natural hair movement. To those who kept Black follicles alive, healthy and stylish, long before natural hair became the movement it is today.
As the founder of Going-Natural.com, the longest running natural hair blog with over 80,000 members, followers and fans, I know I got my start thanks to the braiders and locticians who kept elevating beauty standards with aesthetics unique to African textures.
It was only about 30 years ago that the first ever professional natural hair salon opened where you could go to groom locs. That was in historic, in Brooklyn and it’s time to give homage the natural hair capital of the world.
Invite for hairstylists, models, bloggers, vloggers and naturalistas
So it’s with joy and pride that I invite you natural hairstylists, models, naturalistas, bloggers, vloggers and everyone who has ever visited one of my websites, pages or read one of my books, to come celebrate this milestone with me!
Natural hair stylists and salons
If we haven’t contacted you yet, please get in touch if you want to participate in the Going Natural Hair Show. Send us your name, brand/salon name, contact info and a few photos of your styles.
Models
If you want to be in the hair show, please send us your name, hair length, hair type (locs/loose), your body measurements (we need this for clothing) and 3 photos with your natural hair.
Bloggers, vloggers and infulencers
Please send us your name, a bio of a few lines, your handle or link and your best picture.
Followers, fans, members, please like, comment, spread the word and come to the show.

Peter Murphy – Tribute To David Bowie (Night 2): The Peter Murphy Residency at (le) poisson rouge
7:00 pm doors | 8:00 pm show | 18+
$55 Advance | $65 Day of Show | $230 VIP Package | 18+
After a triumphant and sold out residency in San Francisco this past March, consummate showman and legendary musician PETER MURPHY has announced a very special and intimate residency this August at New York City’s LE POISSON ROUGE (158 Bleecker St, New York, NY 10012). Mirroring his West Coast shows, these performances will kick off on August 2nd, running through his solo albums in their entirety beginning with 1986’s Should The World Fail to Fall Apart and ending with a greatest hits show of solo material and tributes to Bauhaus and David Bowie.
After an extensive and exhaustive 93 shows worldwide of his “The Ruby Tour: 40 Years of Bauhaus” that concluded this Spring as well as the aforementioned San Francisco residency, Peter returned home to his home in Istanbul to refresh his energy before returning to the stage in NYC.
First emerging from the British punk and rock underground in the late 70s, Murphy (along with bandmates Daniel Ash, David J and Kevin Haskins) fronted the groundbreaking iconic rock band Bauhaus which spawned four iconoclastic and ultra-seminal albums as well as keystone singles “She’s In Parties”, “Silent Hedges”, and, of course, “Bela Lugosi’s Dead” before disbanding in 1983. Murphy launched a successful solo career that has yielded ten solo albums so far, including his latest LION, released in 2014.
Featuring:
Mark Gemini Thwaite – Guitar
Marc Slutsky – Drums
Emilio Zef China – Bass, Violin

The Hottest August
Brett Story | USA and Canada | 95
A complex portrait of a city and its inhabitants, The Hottest August gives us a window into the collective consciousness of the present. The film’s point of departure is one city over one month: New York City, including its outer boroughs, during August 2017. It’s a month heavy with the tension of a new President, growing anxiety over everything from rising rents to marching white nationalists, and unrelenting news of either wildfires or hurricanes on every coast. The film pivots on the question of futurity: what does the future look like from where we are standing? And what if we are not all standing in the same place? The Hottest August offers a mirror onto a society on the verge of catastrophe, registering the anxieties, distractions, and survival strategies that preoccupy ordinary lives.

Pat Metheny is launching a new playing environment called “Side Eye” that features a rotating cast of new and upcoming musicians.
About this Event
Pat Metheny is launching a new playing environment called “Side Eye” for this upcoming season.
Pat explains “I wanted to create an ongoing setting to feature a rotating cast of new and upcoming musicians who have particularly caught my interest along the way.”
Pat continues “From my earliest days in Kansas City onward, I was the beneficiary of so many older musicians giving me a platform to develop my thing through the prism of their experience and the particular demands of what their music implied. I have been feeling like I wanted to have a specific platform to focus on some of the many younger musicians I have enjoyed recently who I have felt some kind of a kinship with.”
“I hear regularly from new players on the scene who have professed an influence from my records and tunes and I often invite them up to my house to play. Very often, it is really natural and organic to the music to play with them, they have literally grown up with it. I find myself inspired by how they deal with the musical challenges that come with the territory of some of those older tunes, and at the same time I find myself intrigued with the possibilties of what might be possible in writing new music just for them. This band setting is what that will be all about.”
This edition of Side Eye will feature James Francies (keyboards, piano) and drummer Marcus Gilmore.
