deadmau5 Cube v3 Afters: TESTPILOT & More 18+ @ Avant Gardner 140 Stewart Ave Brooklyn, NY 11237 United States

deadmau5’s techno alter ego TESTPILOT makes his Avant Gardner debut for a special CUBE v3 Afterparty!
About this Event
Kings Hall & Lost Circus will open at 11pm with The Great Hall to follow at the conclusion of the CUBE v3 show.

It’s no secret that deadmau5 has a keen ear for impeccable techno. Throughout his career, Joel Zimmerman has consistently proven that his musical tastes are as sharp as his musical talents – particularly so in the past year through his BBC Radio 1 Residency mixes. Suffice it to say, the Canadian artist has had his pulse on the scene long before it was “cool” to do so.

About this Event
7:00pm doors | 8:00pm show | all ages

Spotify presale begins Wednesday, December 11th at 10am EST

General onsale begins Friday, December 13th at 10am EST

Radiohead’s Ed O’Brien has confirmed details of the North American debut of EOB’s live incarnation: EOB will play intimate shows in New York, Los Angeles, Chicago and Toronto in February 2020.

These exclusive events will serve as prelude to a full scale tour in support of EOB’s debut album, due out early 2020 on Capitol Records. EOB’s live band on these four dates and the upcoming tour will be comprised of Hinako Omori, Ross Chapman, Dishan Abrahams and Alvin Ford, Jr.

Ed recently unveiled the first sights and sounds from his debut under the EOB moniker, in the form of the song “Brasil.” Described by STEREOGUM as “a nine-minute shapeshifting epic,” “Brasil” begins life as a plaintive ballad built on the bare bones of O’Brien’s voice and acoustic guitar before blooming into “a pulsing motorik driver that beats out into space” (CONSEQUENCE OF SOUND). “Brasil” was also adapted into a nine-minute short film, bringing to life a concept by Ed and director Andrew Donoho that—in the words of ROLLING STONE—”shows humanity coming together after Earth is visited by an alien power.”

The early 2020 release date of the EOB album will be revealed shortly, as will its title. The album was recorded from the fall of 2017 through early 2019. Produced by Flood and mixed by Alan Moulder, EOB’s debut album features contributions from Omar Hakim, Colin Greenwood, Adam “Cecil” Bartlett, David Okumu and Richie Kennedy, Laura Marling, Adrian Utley, Nathan East and Glenn Kotche.

About this Event
A. SAVAGE

SPOTIFY

A. Savage is best known as the frontman for Parquet Court, a duty split with fellow Texan Austin Brown, and their last record, Human Performance , delved into the emotional wreckage of a broken heart, to critical acclaim. But with Thawing Dawn, his first solo album which will be released on Dull Tools, it’s clear that Savage has matured. The songs on Thawing Dawn form a guided tour through the romantic environs of A. Savage’s mirrored mind. While some were written recently, other tunes were penned over the past decade. For one reason or another, these compositions didn’t land with any of Savage’s other groups, and instead are presented now as a distinct collection. Reflecting back, Savage says, “Once I realized I had a small body of work that didn’t fit anywhere else, I started to examine the commonalities: What’s the common denominator of all this and how I can expand on it?”

These ten songs were recorded between December 2016 and June 2017 by a cast of friends in Jarvis Taveniere’s Thump Studios in Brooklyn. Members of Woods, Ultimate Painting, PC Worship, EZTV, and Psychic TV all lend their talents. Savage’s voice, once shouted into mosh pits, now glides confidently above its backing band. While assembling the record, he fell in love. Now, for the first time, we hear songs about being on the inside of love. Rather than lamenting the end of a relationship, we hear a voice trying, in the moment, to make sense of love’s mysteries. “Part of this maturity,” he says, “is reflecting on something when it’s happening, not just when it’s gone.”

Throughout, A. Savage delivers one-off lines of razor-sharp observation that will stick in your brain, only to surface when you’re least prepared to handle their insights. When you put your copy of Thawing Dawn on your turntable and drop the needle, you’ll learn what A. Savage has to say about romance in our modern world.

Until the End of Time: Brian Greene in Conversation with Janna Levin by Pioneer Works @ Pioneer Works 159 Pioneer Street Brooklyn, NY 11231 United States

Join Janna Levin and Brian Greene in conversation to discuss our fleeting but utterly exquisite moment in the cosmos.
About this Event
Brian Greene, the world-renowned physicist and best-selling author of The Elegant Universe, launches his captivating new book Until the End of Time: Mind, Matter, and Our Search for Meaning in an Evolving Universe at Pioneer Works.

Until the End of Time is Greene’s riveting exploration into the cosmos and our quest to understand it. He takes us on a journey across time, starting from our most refined understanding of the universe’s beginning to the closest science can take us to the very end. How do life and mind emerge from the initial chaos? How do our minds seek meaning in experience: in narrative, myth, religion, creative expression, science, the quest for truth, and our longing for the eternal? Through a series of nested stories that explain distinct but interwoven layers of reality—from quantum mechanics to consciousness to black holes—Greene provides us with a clearer sense of how we came to be, a finer picture of where we are now, and a firmer understanding of where we are headed.

Join Janna Levin, our Director of Sciences, in conversation with Brian Greene to grasp and gain a refined appreciation for our fleeting, but utterly exquisite, moment in the cosmos.

Books will be available for sale at the event and a book signing will follow the conversation.

Space is limited for this event, so please note that the RSVPs are restricted to two tickets per person. We want to welcome everyone and will do our best to accommodate our audience, although we regret that an RSVP cannot guarantee entry. We encourage you to come early to find a seat or a spot.

Brian Greene is a professor of physics and mathematics and Director of Columbia University’s Center for Theoretical Physics and is renowned for his groundbreaking discoveries in superstring theory. He is the author of The Elegant Universe, The Fabric of the Cosmos, and The Hidden Reality, which have collectively spent sixty-five weeks on The New York Times best-seller list and sold more than two million copies worldwide. He has hosted two Peabody and Emmy Award winning NOVA miniseries based on his books. With producer Tracy Day, Greene co-founded the World Science Festival.

Janna Levin is the Chair and Founding Director of the Science Studios at Pioneer Works. She is also the Claire Tow Professor of physics and astronomy at Barnard College of Columbia University. A Guggenheim Fellow, Janna has contributed to an understanding of black holes, the cosmology of extra dimensions, and gravitational waves in the shape of spacetime. She is the presenter of the NOVA feature Black Hole Apocalypse, aired on PBS—the first female presenter for NOVA in 35 years. Janna also won a PEN prize for a first work of fiction.

This project is supported by Science Sandbox, a Simons Foundation initiative dedicated to engaging everyone with the process of science.
