Film screening and followed with a Q&A with Gustav Mahler and Hilan Warshaw.
As both composer and conductor, Gustav Mahler was one of the most pivotal figures of late-nineteenth-century European music. But the final years of his life were largely spent in New York City. Here, among the bustle of Manhattan’s Upper West Side and 59th Street, he worked on his last symphonies, transformed New York’s musical life through his leadership of both the New York Philharmonic and the Metropolitan Opera, and confronted the greatest emotional crisis of his life. Mahler in New York is a new documentary by Hilan Warshaw that recreates these momentous last years in the life of an émigré genius, through archival sources, interviews, musical performances, and modern-day location footage. The film screening will be followed by a Q & A with Hilan Warshaw.

Nicer Tuesdays is a monthly talks event, bringing together speakers from across the creative world.
Bráulio Amado, Daniel Savage, Sarah Elawad, Lindsay Perryman: Tickets now available for February’s Nicer Tuesdays in New York!
Nicer Tuesdays will be returning to New York with an incredible line-up of creatives. Get seated for some awe-inspiring talks on collage, photography, and publishing – with a Q&A with Michael Beirut to boot.
Step right up, New Yorkers, Nicer Tuesdays will be making its 2026 debut at the SVA Theatre on 10 February – and we’ve been cooking up a brand new line-up just for you.
At the event, you can expect talks from Daniel Savage, a multi-disciplinary artist, designer, and animator whose work often focuses on exploring modular animation systems and process-driven work. As well as that, the graphic designer Sarah Elawad will be joining the stage to share the process behind her ultra-neon and kitsch graphic work which celebrates beauty, love and her culture through experimental prints, garments, video art and collage. Daniel and Sarah will both be pulling back the curtain on their creative processes and sharing more on their key projects.
Lindsay Perryman, a multidisciplinary artist and photographer will be sharing the stage to talk about their new book Tops, a book that centres transmasculine vulnerablity and Lindsay’s own experience with top surgery, which contains many stages of tenderness, urgency, trauma and grief. Finally, the graphic designer and illustrator Bráulio Amado will be doing a presentation at our Nicer Tuesdays’ stage, chronicling his prolific output of vibrant and energetic posters, record covers and editorial illustrations with clients from Frank Ocean to Harry Styles.
The event will take place on Tuesday 10 February at the School of Visual Arts Theatre in Chelsea. Doors will open at 6:30 pm and the talks will begin around 7pm. The full address is SVA Theatre, 333 West 23rd Street, New York, NY10011. It’s a seated event, so get there early to ensure a seat and pick up a drink beforehand!
Daniel Savage
Daniel Savage is a multi-disciplinary artist, designer, and animator whose work often focuses on exploring modular animation systems and process-driven work – from analogue plotter animations to psychedelic playing cards. Daniel has collected work in a new art book Something Savage, a vivid selection of geometric abstractions and machine-assisted animations which clash analogue and digital aesthetics to create hypnotic visuals (with each page paired with augmented reality content!)
Sarah Elawad
Sarah Elawad is a British-Sudanese graphic designer whose ultra-neon and kitschy graphic work celebrates beauty, love and her culture through experimental prints, garments, video art and collage. Through WhatsApp sticker-graphics, digital manipulation and aesthetics that recall glitter-bombed MySpace pages, Sarah creates smorgasbords of clashing textures and colours in increasingly fun ways.
Lindsay Perryman
Lindsay Perryman is a multidisciplinary artist and photographer who has worked across commissioned work, exhibitions and photography. They’ll be sharing the stage to talk about their newest book Tops, a book that centres transmasculine vulnerable and Lindsay’s own experience with top surgery, which contains many stages of tenderness, urgency, trauma and grief. Lindsay encapsulates the emotional depth of surgery and the trans community, showing it’s not only skin deep.
Bráulio Amado
The graphic designer and illustrator Bráulio Amado will be doing a presentation at our Nicer Tuesdays’ stage, chronicling his prolific output of vibrant and energetic posters, record covers and editorial illustrations with clients from Frank Ocean to Harry Styles (with his newest album cover). With his studio Badbadbadbad, he designs on his own terms, merging art and music with a punk-style flair, leading to a distinctive visual language marked by humour and chaos.
Timings for the evening: doors open at 6.30pm and the talks will begin around 7pm.
We’re excited to partner with DIO which will provide each attendee with a complimentary drink (with proof of legal age).
Photography and filming may be taken at this event for marketing and promotional purposes. If you do not want to be photographed or filmed, please speak to our team on the day.

Overview
No auditions. No judgment. No need for perfection. Just the joy of singing in harmony with a room full of beautiful humans.
WHAT IS A ONE-DAY CHOIR?
Gaia Music Collective’s One-Day Choir series is an opportunity to sing in a choir for one day only. A celebration of song and the connective power of singing in harmony. An opportunity to build community, make some new friends, and raise our powerfully diverse voices as one.
No auditions. No commitment. No judgment or need for perfection.
Just the joy of creating something bigger than ourselves with a room full of beautiful humans!
For each choir, we pick a piece of music to rehearse and sing our hearts out to. In our time together, we’ll:
Play some fun singing games, warmups and connection games
Work through the piece section by section
Break down the lyrics and emotions at play in the song
Shape some key musical moments
And record some casual rehearsal videos of the piece to have for ourselves and share with the greater Gaia community
Whether you’re a vocal ensemble veteran or have never sung in a group before, you are welcome here – all experience levels are valued in Gaia Music Collective!
OUR SONG THIS TIME AROUND
This song is an outcry against war and violence. Originally written as a protest song during the Troubles in Northern Ireland, this song rings more true now than ever. In times like these, when it sometimes feels like you can’t open your phone without witnessing acts of horrific cruelty, we turn to music and to one another as a light in the dark.
Matt’s arrangement of this song will be big and full-bodied, giving us a chance to belt out at the top of our lungs with harmonies that say: “WE DO NOT WANT THIS.” Perhaps the music can be a place where we can connect, process, create, and feel less alone.
LEARNING THE MUSIC
Sheet music and vocal recordings of each part will be available as learning resources at least a week before the event, to accommodate multiple ways of learning. These resources will either be included in your order confirmation or sent out in an email!
The intention is for us to come into the gathering having already familiarized ourselves with the parts, so that we can spend our time together really diving into the joys of connection and expression in the music rather than simply teaching parts one by one. That being said, we’re just doing this for ourselves, so there’s no need to stress over it (and definitely no need to memorize it or get it “perfect”, ever)! It’s also often easier to sing in person, when the rest of our part-buddies are singing the part with us. The community is here to support! Our primary intention here is simply to have fun and make some great music.
(If this style of learning isn’t your cup of tea, we have other group singing events where you don’t need to prepare at all! Check out our CircleSinging gatherings and House Shows.)
LED and FACILITATED BY:
This session will be facilitated by our amazing Founder and Lead Facilitator, Matt Goldstein.
Matt Goldstein (he/him) is an award-winning arranger, facilitator, improviser, songwriter, and educator who is known for his emotive vocal arrangements, soulful singing, heart-forward facilitation, and visionary leadership. After making waves in the a cappella scene as music director of The Vassar Devils and Hyannis Sound, he went on to found Gaia Music Collective, a collaborative music community that is achieving international recognition for its work in creating kind, connective, accessible spaces for musical play and expression. Along with designing and leading Gaia’s viral “One-Day Choir” series, Matt is passionate about leading circle singing, facilitating improvised jams, and cultivating exciting new projects in the vocal music sphere. He currently serves as Gaia’s Artistic Director and Lead Facilitator, while also performing as an improviser and singer-songwriter, directing at A Cappella Academy (a summer camp for talented young singers), leading Rock Voices (a community pop-rock choir), and teaching vocal improv intensives through his private teaching studio, Flow Labs.

COMMUNITY GUIDELINES
At Gaia Music Collective, we are dedicated to building a community where creativity, collaboration, and care thrive. The values listed here shape how we work together, how we engage with the world, and how we move toward upholding these principles.
OUR MISSION
Gaia Music Collective is an NYC-based creative community seeking to foster a more connected world through collective music-making. Founded in June of 2021 in a living room in Brooklyn, this project was born out of a desire to create accessible, inclusive, playful spaces for people to explore connection, expression, healing, and release through collaborative song – spaces where folks feel empowered to make music free of judgment or expectation, and to make new friends as our full, beautiful, authentic selves.
We believe that communal music-making is a fundamental human practice, and this project seeks to build spaces for folks to nurture their relationship to music, whether they’re shower singers, professional musicians, or anything in between.
All are welcome in this community. Gaia seeks to foster spaces of belonging for humans of all ages, races, genders, sexual orientations, classes, religions, abilities, national origins, languages, and musical experiences. All we ask is that you bring an open mind, a desire to connect, and a willingness to leave judgment of self and others at the door.

Arlen Schumer reveals how the series’ eerily prescient tales continue to challenge and inspire us.
Step into The Twilight Zone and discover why this legendary anthology series remains so powerfully relevant today. From 1959 to 1964, Rod Serling’s groundbreaking program used science fiction, fantasy, and horror not merely to entertain, but to probe humanity’s deepest hopes, anxieties, and ethical dilemmas. Among its most compelling themes was the role of modern technology— its dazzling promise and its darker, more unsettling consequences. These stories reflected the postwar boom in science, innovation, and space exploration, yet they also warned of technology’s potential to erode empathy, distort identity, and threaten the human spirit. Author and designer Arlen Schumer—creator of Visions from The Twilight Zone and the new book The Five Themes of The Twilight Zone—examines more than a dozen classic episodes that brilliantly anticipated the technological struggles of our own century. Through vivid visuals, thoughtful commentary, and engaging analysis, Schumer reveals how the series’ eerily prescient tales continue to challenge and inspire us, reminding audiences that progress and peril often travel hand in hand. Join us for an illuminating journey into The Twilight Zone.

ABOUT KIN:
Vernice and Annie, two motherless daughters raised in Honeysuckle, Louisiana, have been best friends and neighbors since earliest childhood but are fated to live starkly different lives. Raised by a fierce aunt determined to give her a stable home in the wake of her mother’s death, Vernice leaves Honeysuckle at eighteen for Spelman College, where she joins a sisterhood of powerfully connected Black women and discovers a world of affluence, manners, aspiration, and inequality. Annie, abandoned by her mother as a child and fixated on the idea of finding her and filling the bottomless hole left by her absence, sets off on a journey that will take her into a world of peril and adversity, as well as love and adventure, culminating in a battle for her life.
A novel about mothers and daughters, friendship and sisterhood, and the complexities of being a woman in the American South, Kin is an exuberant, emotionally rich, unforgettable work from one of the brightest and most irresistible voices in contemporary fiction.
ABOUT Tayari Jones:
TAYARI JONES is the author of five novels, most recently An American Marriage, which was an Oprah’s Book Club selection and also appeared on Barack Obama’s summer reading list and his year-end roundup. It won the Women’s Prize for Fiction, the Aspen Words Literary Prize, and an NAACP Image Award and has been published in two dozen countries. Jones is the C.H. Candler Professor of English and Creative Writing at Emory University and lives in Atlanta. Her latest novel is Kin.

Who is the real Thomas Haller? His oldest friend and former dealer, Lorna, might once have known – before Thomas traded their early intimacy for international fame. Between his ruthless new dealer and a property mogul obsessed with his work, the appetite for Thomas and his art is all-consuming.
On the eve of his latest show, the luminaries of the art world gather. But the sudden death of a young man has put everyone on edge, and a chain of events begins that will lead the friends back into the past, to confront who they have become.A story of deception, power play and longing, The Violet Hour exposes the unsettling underbelly of the art world, asking: who is granted admission to a world that only seems to glitter, what is sacrificed, and who is left outside, their faces pressed to the glass?
***
A tale told with thunder of an art world smitten with itself. Jerry Saltz
A compelling and beautifully written novel, set in the rarefied world of high-end art … I found the author’s eye and ear for the nuanced detail of today’s art world ritual unusually acute and often unnervingly familiar. Michael Craig-Martin, artist
There’s something of F. Scott Fitzgerald about the way Cahill writes about the very rich … A heady story fraught with questions about money, value and the bleak side of fame. Cahill writes with an artist’s attention to colour and detail, but also with an acute awareness of surface glitter, be it the gleaming facades of 21st-century London or the confected personas we present to each other and ourselves.” Claire Allfree, Daily Mail
After the dusty parochialism of Cambridge [in Tiepolo Blue], the canvas here is broader, more global, more glamorous, cutting between New York, London, Hong Kong, Montreux. But the same theme – art and lies – endures. … This is an enthrallingly intricate novel, with a large cast of characters whose stories and psychological hinterlands are interlinked through the mesh of art, money and desire. Lucasta Miller, Guardian
[Set] in the world of modern art, where the implausible and ridiculous are de rigueur … the book has a fine sense of the silliness of the art market, while taking the work itself seriously …Cahill ratchets up the pace and intensity as the end approaches, and takes the opportunity to bring the characters together in conflict wherever he can – a gallery launch, the Venice Biennale – and to subvert the reader’s expectations. [The Violet Hour] is soapy and satisfying, and that’s pleasure enough. John Self, Observer
The dots are joined in a twisty mystery propelled by sex and satire at the expense of an art-world jet set gnawed hollow by deceit. Anthony Cummins, Mail on Sunday
This savagely satirical novel culminates at the Venice Biennale, where ‘The art had become a given. What people came to see was the art world.’ … Cahill’s novel teems with colour and life, as shockingly compelling as the society it skewers. Michael Arditti, Spectator
A hugely enjoyable yarn by an author hitting his literary stride. Sarah Lucas, artist
The international contemporary art market is rich territory for a novelist, and James Cahill mines its excesses and absurdities with precision and panache. Philip Hook, author of Rogue’s Gallery
