THE FILM

By Design

Amanda Kramer | 2025 | US | 99 mins

Upon seeing a chair with a gorgeous body – sturdy frame, meticulous handiwork, classic design – Camille, a woman who’s never been particularly jealous of any other woman, realizes that she truly envies the life of a perfect piece of furniture. Its usefulness even in utter plainness. Its providing of comfort, relief to all who need it. Through the wishing magic of the enduring body-swap genre, Camille and this chair exchange form. So begins a nightmare of stillness and silence. A woman’s being trapped inside of an object, an object’s essence weighing down a woman’s figure. Feminine rivalry and resentment taken to its most ludicrous, surreal extreme. Presented in partnership with the Meatpacking District Business Improvement District.

About this event
Event lasts 1 hour
Hosted by Patrick Sauer & David J. Roth

Featuring authors Michael Kosta and Giri Nathan

Tickets starting at $11

Created and hosted by writers Patrick Sauer and David J. Roth, Squawkin’ Sports is an ongoing series featuring book chats with authors who write about playing games. This month, Sauer and Roth chat with comic and Emmy-Award winning host of The Daily Show Michael Kosta, author of Lucky Loser: Adventures in Tennis and Comedy, and prize-winning tennis journalist and senior correspondent at The Second Serve Giri Nathan, author of Changeover: A Young Rivalry and a New Era of Men’s Tennis.A wildly funny and insightful memoir, Lucky Loser follows Michael Kosta’s unlikely journey from professional tennis player (#864 in the world) to professional comedian (there’s no ranking system in comedy but he’s probably . . . top 50?). From misadventures through the backwaters of professional tennis to the humbling setbacks of comedy, Lucky Loser is a heart-filled story of making your own luck, the universal experience of failure, and the many ways in which we all inevitably lose on the way to success. A Bloomberg 10 Best Books of Summer 2025, Changeover tells the story of the epic rivalry of Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner, as told by Giri Nathan, called “the best tennis writer in America” (Brian Phillips, The Ringer). Punctuated with humor, brimming with insight, and rooted in a true fan’s love of the game, this work of elevated sports journalism is a captivating primer to the rivalry poised to define the next decade of the sport.

Ticket options:

$11: 1 beer

$42: 1 beer + Lucky Loser

$42: 1 beer + Changeover

$80: 2 beers + both books

About this event
How is New York City protecting waterfront neighborhoods from the impact of sea level rise and severe storms? Join Open House New York for a boat tour and hear from urban infrastructure leaders at NYC Economic Development Corporation, NYC Department of Environmental Protection, NYC Department of Design and Construction, and the Mayor’s Office of Climate and Environmental Justice.

Since the devastating storm surge caused by Hurricane Sandy in 2012, city agencies have been working to develop and implement various infrastructure projects to adapt the built environment to the new realities of climate change. In Lower Manhattan, an area particularly vulnerable to flooding, the city has made and continues to plan significant investments—from raised shorelines to floodgates—that not only protect residents, businesses, and cultural assets, but also upgrade recreational spaces and increase waterfront access.

On this sunset tour, learn about the implementation of the city’s resiliency plans along the shorelines of Lower Manhattan, East River, and Red Hook, and hear about the complexity of planning, designing, and building these infrastructure projects that will shape the waterfront for generations to come.

Speakers

Kai-Uwe Bergmann, Partner, Bjarke Ingels Group
Laurian Farrell, Deputy Commissioner of the Bureau of Coastal Resilience, NYC Department of Environmental Protection
Elijah Hutchinson, Executive Director, Mayor’s Office of Climate and Environmental Justice
Joe Lione, Associate Commissioner for Coastal Resiliency Construction, NYC Department of Design and Construction
Max Taffet, Senior Vice President, Ports, Waterfront and Transportation, NYC Economic Development Corporation
Becky Yurek, Chief Strategy Officer, NYC Department of Design and Construction
Presented in partnership with NYC Department of Design and Construction, NYC Department of Environmental Protection, NYC Economic Development Corporation, and the Mayor’s Office of Climate and Environmental Justice.
