Since the first one sold out in minutes, Matinée is proudly hosting Spring Equinox Pt 2 – Manhattan Edition.
Whoever decided the new year started in January is both a sadist and just plain wrong. January is for cozy hibernation not for achieving torturous resolutions. We are taking back NYE and celebrating it with the Spring Equinox.
Join us as we pop champagne and countdown to the sunset for the start of spring.
What To Expect
It’s a Matinée event, so you can expect to have a wild night that ends at 10pm surrounded by a beautiful crowd of seasoned aka Millennial(ish) party people.
BUT Spring Equinox will be a bit different than our past events for a few reasons…
The Venue
Our collaboration with Joyface is still going strong, but for Spring Equinox we wanted everyone to be able to watch the sunset. So we’re happy to be hosting at The Club by Mr. Purple, which is a new space on the 14th floor of Hotel Indigo Lower East Side. For those who haven’t been, it’s light-laden disco with west-facing skyline windows so we can countdown until sunset. Take a video tour here.
The Music
Matinée is all about the groove. While the sounds will change based on the collaboration, the recipe will likely always include disco, funk, house, diva singalongs, and songs that overwhelm you with love.
At Spring Equinox, the creative brief is “Let the Sun Shine”. Expect daytime & deep disco that fills you with vitamin D as we countdown to the Spring Equinox.
The Dress Code
Per usual, vibes encouraged. For those who love a theme, think Midsommar meets Saltburn, think white and flowers, think your favorite spring outfit. Here’s a mood board crafted by the Matineer that is one of the architects behind Spring Equinox.

About Matinée
Love to party, but also love a good night’s rest? (Looking at you millennials 👀)
With Matinée, you can have both.
It’s a “night time” dance party that lets you have a wild night out…and be home by 11pm.
The party starts at 5pm, peaks at 8, over at 10.
Some reviews from past Matinéers…
“Omg y’all solved nightlife.”
“This is the most fun I’ve ever had before 9pm.’
“I feel way too young to be here” – Gen Z
Hosted by a few of NYC’s funkiest disco & house DJs, Matinée has been selling out one of New York’s most beloved discos with sets that past Matineers have called “an undeniable feel good sound” and “the best night of my life”.
Here’s a mix and playlist to get you in the mood.
The Matinée Mission
Nightlife pretty much only caters to 20 somethings. Matinée wants to change that.
We’re working to create a space where our fellow Millennials and beyond can step away from adult responsibilities and let loose for a while – creating memories with old friends and hopefully make some new ones.
If that sounds like your ideal night, we hope you’ll join us.
Frequently asked questions

Yes, there will be limited capacity at the door throughout the night.

A BOUT OUR FIGHT:
From the moment she burst onto the MMA scene, Ronda Rousey was unbeatable. She repeatedly strung together back-to-back flawless victories, racking up a collection of records and forever changing the face of sports as the UFC’s first female champion. A superstar in her sport, she transcended athletics, appearing in blockbuster films and becoming a role model for women everywhere. Then, on November 15, 2015, it all came crashing down.
In OUR FIGHT, Rousey explores the greatest challenge of her life and, ultimately, how she rebuilt her life into something better in the aftermath. She recounts how she replaced her pursuit of perfection with the pursuit of happiness and found an opportunity in disguise amongst the wreckage. Following Rousey’s relatable journey, OUR FIGHT is a courageous narrative of career changes, marriage, motherhood, and facing your fears.

Mustafa Gündoğdu, best known under his stage name Mousse T., is a German-Turkish DJ, record producer, film composer and judge on season 15 of Deutschland sucht den Superstar, the German version of Pop Idol.
Till von Sein exudes an aura of noble grandeur mixed with the genuine enthusiasm of a child with a favorite toy when he’s busy in the DJ booth. But Tilly’s toy, which in this case is house and its countless derivatives, won’t ever end up forgotten in the corner.

Book Launch: Loretta Lopez presents City Girls
In conversation with Lauren Blodgett
Loretta Lopez’s debut middle grade novel City Girls is a story of finding sanctuary with friends who understand the enormous changes life can throw you when you’re 11. What Elisa, Lucia, and Alice see–and judge–of each other from the outside is drastically different from how each girl feels inside. They attend the same classes in the same New York City middle school, but no one knows the hardships that they’re individually going through. Narrated by each girl in alternating chapters, City Girls captures the vulnerability of being a middle schooler and the relief and joy of finding friendship where you least expect it. Loretta discusses her work with the Founder and Executive Director of the Brave House, Lauren Blodgett, along with a reading and a book signing.

About this event
“It’s just like unraveling a tangle when you don’t know where the knots are, and you don’t know what the web looks like. But as you work on one section, it is connected to everything.” ~ Kamailelauli’I Rafaelovich
The strands of our world are composed of our individual differences and collective experiences, woven together in ways that can seem too complicated to grasp. While it is tempting to surrender in the face of these complexities, understanding our world requires us to confront the knots in our everyday existence and detangle our perception of reality. To do so, the first steps are showing up and creating spaces for shared innovation. By nurturing our joint efforts, we can succeed in making the chaos comprehensible and harnessing the power of our newfound understanding. Join us in our quest to unravel the complexities of life and weave the fabric of our future!
