About this event
Open House New York invites you for an afternoon cruise of the New York and New Jersey harbors to learn more about the immense scale and complexity of local and global port activity. Bethann Rooney, Director of the Port Department at the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey and a 30+ year veteran in the maritime industry, will guide us on the past, present, and future of the shipping industry in the New York and New Jersey harbors.

As the gateway to one of the most concentrated consumer markets in the world, the Port of New York and New Jersey is the busiest container terminal on the East Coast and second busiest in the country. From the first pier in 1659 through the establishment of the Port Authority in 1921, the wooden ships and cargo hooks of the past have now been replaced by computers and a landscape of gantry cranes. The tour will showcase container terminals and cargo infrastructure, along with iconic sites like the Lower Manhattan skyline and Statue of Liberty.

As our cities globalize and supply chains work to meet our on-demand needs, hear how the Port of New York and New Jersey will continue to serve the region with world-class infrastructure.

AIA CES credit (2.5 LU) is available for this program.

About THE STRIKER:

She’s the only woman he wants…and the only one he can’t have.

Asher Donovan is a living legend—the darling of the Premier League, the (arguably) greatest footballer in the world.

But his reckless antics and recent team transfer have caused much controversy, and when his feud with his rival-turned-teammate costs them a championship, they’re forced to “bond” during off-season cross-training.

Surviving the summer shouldn’t be hard…until Asher meets their new trainer. She’s beautiful, talented, and no matter how hard he tries, he can’t take his mind off her.

The only problem? She’s his rival’s sister—and completely off limits.

***

Scarlett DuBois is a former prima ballerina whose career was cut short by a tragic accident.

Now a teacher at a prestigious dance academy but still haunted by the ghosts of her past, the last thing she wants is to spend the summer cross-training Asher Donovan, of all people.

She swore she would never date a footballer, but when her brother leaves town for an emergency, she finds herself thrown into dangerously close proximity with the gorgeous, charming striker.

Training, she can deal with. But falling in love? That’s out of the question—especially when he’s the only person with the power to break her heart.

About Ana Huang:

Ana Huang is an international bestselling author best known for her Twisted series. She writes new adult and contemporary romance with deliciously alpha heroes, strong heroines, and plenty of steam, angst, and swoon sprinkled in. Huang’s other books include the Kings of Sin series and the If Love series. A self–professed travel enthusiast, she loves incorporating beautiful destinations into her stories and will never say no to a good chai latte. When she’s not reading or writing, Ana is busy daydreaming and scouring Yelp for her next favorite restaurant.

Will Election 2024 result in an orderly transfer of power—or will the results unleash controversy and chaos that threatens the foundations of our democracy? Before America goes to the polls on November 5, you’re invited to join the four hosts of The Reason Roundtable—Reason magazine’s own Nick Gillespie, Katherine Mangu-Ward, Peter Suderman, and Matt Welch—in New York City for a no-holds-barred discussion of what this election means for the future of America.

The Reason Roundtable is a rollicking contretemps between these four opinionated journalists as they put their personal “free minds and free markets” filter on the biggest stories of today. During this hour-long live taping of the popular weekly podcast, expect lively roasting, incisive analysis, and unflinching critiques of the latest in politics, culture, and whatever fresh hell awaits us all.

This will be the hottest ticket in town, so grab your seat now! Doors for The Reason Roundtable Live at the Village Underground open at 6:00 p.m., and the four-way scrimmage starts at 6:30 pm SHARP. Tickets include admission to our after-party at 3 Sheets Saloon (134 W 3rd St)!
