This special anniversary will be a celebration of all of the champions who have worked with us over the years on making the world better for system-involved children and youth, including our many Unsung Heroes.
For the past forty years, YLC has transformed the lives of tens of thousands of children across the nation by forging systemic and sustained change within the foster care and juvenile justice systems. We have worked to end harmful practices, ensure effective parenting and ensure successful adulthoods. Our impact includes:
Improved conditions for children who are incarcerated and institutionalized
Return to community and family for some of the most isolated children
Increased supports for families and parenting
Developmentally appropriate care that recognizes the special vulnerabilities of babies
Maximizing opportunities for children involved in systems to achieve their goals through education and higher education, normal childhoods, extracurricular activities, extended foster care, transition to parenthood, and advocacy opportunities
Holding public agencies accountable for excellent care for children

California Location Professionals and Productions shine on their biggest night of the year. The COLA Awards, will return to The Beverly Hilton on Sunday, December 16th, 2018 with a VIP Reception and Red Carpet Show beginning at 3:00PM (PT). The event features an evening of celebration including a music, entertainment and live awards show beginning from the stage in the International Ballroom at 5:00PM.

DESCRIPTION
Down-and-out celebrity biographer and cantankerous New Yorker Lee Isarel (expertly played by Melissa McCarthy) is broke. When her beloved cat becomes ill and she can’t pay the medical bills, she turns to forging and selling letters by literary luminaries and finds she’s quite good at it—as Lee puts it, she’s a better Dorothy Parker than Dorothy Parker. Jazz is Dead Presents The Midnight Hour
When two of hip-hop’s most accomplished composers get together to make an album you know the results are going to be special. Ali Shaheed Muhammed (of A Tribe Called Quest) & Adrian Younge began their work together in 2013 on the critically acclaimed Souls of Mischief album There Is Only Now and their partnership cemented on their score work for Marvel’s Luke Cage. Night Bloom is developed in collaboration with Lightswitch, a consortium of internationally recognized lighting, media, and visual designers, who create unforgettable experiences where people live, work, learn and play. Lightswitch has installed lush light art exhibits at Descanso Gardens Guild, the Morton Arboretum and museums and events all over the world.
This month’s First Fridays at the Schomburg is themed “For the Love of House Music,” in honor of Frankie Knuckles. Known as the “Godfather,” Knuckles helped build House–a style of Chicago dance music that revolutionized club culture in the ‘70s and ‘80s and still resonates around the world today. Check out our pop-up displays, sign-up for a Schomburg Society membership, and visit our Schomburg Gift Shop while networking and dancing the night away to tunes provided by DJ Frankie Paradise.
