This special anniversary will be a celebration of all of the champions who have worked with us over the years on making the world better for system-involved children and youth, including our many Unsung Heroes.
For the past forty years, YLC has transformed the lives of tens of thousands of children across the nation by forging systemic and sustained change within the foster care and juvenile justice systems. We have worked to end harmful practices, ensure effective parenting and ensure successful adulthoods. Our impact includes:
Improved conditions for children who are incarcerated and institutionalized
Return to community and family for some of the most isolated children
Increased supports for families and parenting
Developmentally appropriate care that recognizes the special vulnerabilities of babies
Maximizing opportunities for children involved in systems to achieve their goals through education and higher education, normal childhoods, extracurricular activities, extended foster care, transition to parenthood, and advocacy opportunities
Holding public agencies accountable for excellent care for children
